The referendum's question was wether people agree with the new austerity measures or not. People tend to generalise it way too much. Sure, the answer can lead to many things, but of course we can never be sure. There are many scenarios. All this terrorism from the media and not only, was just pathetic. Everyday there'd be about 10 ads that encouraged people to vote YES. Famous people and actors would often come out and do the same thing. But the people's frustration was pretty clear, and that reflected upon their choice.

To most people it was a simple choice. A choice between sure torture, and a potential escape from this particular torture. This escape though, may prove to be an even greater torture than what was being expected. It was a risk. A risk that the greek people were willing to take, and that says a lot. By saying NO, the greeks didn't say no to Europe. They said NO to the ridiculous austerity measures and that's the essence of the situation. The goverment should now focus to strike a good deal that will be viable for economic developement, but that will not put a CRUSHING and HEAVY burden onto the people's heads. They've had enough.
Wow so Greece and its people have rights. They have suffered enough and these austerity measures are ridiculous you say ? And as the Greek government has put it, the lenders are 'terrorists'.

So what about the people of the country who have lent to Greece ? What about the fact that when Greece defaults, their market would have a backlash, rising interest rate and losing jobs. Sure it may not be as severe as Greece but the impact would still be there. And those few people who would lose their sustainance , would have lost it due to Greece. Italy is heavily exposed and heavily debt ridden. So people of these countries should suffer because people of Greece can take no more ? Ridiculous.

If Greece was already being uncompetitive due to Euro , it should have started cutting the public funding a long time ago. It did not. With the help of Goldman Sachs instead they continues hiding actual debt. And Greece continued borrowing out of its limit by commuting fraud. Also Greece was inefficient in tax collection which is nobody's fault but its own.

So the people of other countries should pay for Greece's immature decision to take Euro, for Greece's tax hiding crimes and for Greece's failure to collect taxes. This is being publicised as the win of democracy in Greece ? So you win because you are 'democratic' and other fools who have funded you should suffer. Never mind their rights.

This is nothing but a blackmail..'Win of democracy' is just a way to sugercoat the blackmail.
If you can't repay your debts, don't borrow

This may sound selfish of me but literally the only thing I can think of right now is if I should invest in the Euro or not right now...

If they make them pay double taxes isn't everyone just going to move ?

No i think you should not. It is risky. Greece being in bad condition means Europe being in bad condition.

People have built their life in their countries, they have emotional and material connections there. Moving out is a huge risk and requires a lot of money. Maybe bi/multilangual young (25-40 yo) people with high education and no children can just leave but for most people that can not apply. And wherever they go (East, West, North) there is some sort of cultural intolorence and xenophobia towards them.

First of all, I am not saying that it's everyone's fault but Greece's. But there's a fine line seperating the politicians/the goverment and the "normal" people. You can't account the mistakes and various interests of the politicians against the people of the country. What's done is done . Shouldn't there be a viable solution now ?

Indebted countries aren't something new. Europe is being merciless to Greece. Greece got into Europe and all, but they are treated like they are the scrubs of europe. They are bullying Greece and are imposing their ridiculous, non-viable measures that do nothing but make the situation worse. The EU is supposed to be a family. A union of solidarity and fellowship based on the views of Jean-Paul Sartre and Schuman. So any "weak link" that there might be, should be treated and mended equally and with care. Not the way Germany are bullying Greece in particular here, as if they were the bosses of Europe.

Also, how can people forget Germany's debt ? After 2 world wars, their debt was "gifted" in the London summit of 1953 if I am not mistaken. And let's not forget the war crimes and GERMANY'S debts towards Greece. That's a touchy and controversial subject though. Diplomacy might have 'erased' those debts but they shouldn't be forgotten. Similarly to Greece as you said, there are other countries that will crumble under this pressure. Portugal, Spain, Italy. Greece isn't the only country in a situation like this and they aren't selfish. They are fighting for their place and equality in a corrupt europe. A Europe being bossed around by capitalists, and nothing more v_v

I'm no expert but it would make sense to me that if Greece doesn't use the Euro anymore then the Euro will go back to what it used to be worth.

The problem is the mentality of the greek people. They are arrogant and lack sense of reality. That's what got them into this situation. Even now their countrymen are mocking my country on twitter for warranting a strict debt policy for their next "package". They already owe our country 3,7 billion euros and they dare to spite us.
Same with all the mediterranean countries. They are too carefree and pompous.

One thing I found the most ridiculous about this whole Greek case was that when the nation vote about was done about a week ago and the results were clear, we were shown videos and pictures of greek people celebrating in the streets with posters "Democrasy WINS! "we said no!" . Like yeah you did a good thing for not commiting. Maybe I will take a houseloan with my family, then we will have a meeting and decide we will not pay it back. Really, that is democrasy? LMAO!!!! Greece pay your debts!

My country (Finland) paid our war debts fully back to Soviet Union after the second World War. That's clearly something that Greece isn't capable and willing to do. Well that is why they have become the laughing stock of the whole Europe. And they dare to yap their mouths.
