[Discussion] Greatest, not strongest character

There have been many threads on who is the strongest character in the narutoverse. My question however is: Who is the greatest? I'm talking about who do you think is somebody u can look up to on a personal level? they may be the weakest character but there is just something they did or something about them that inspires?​

For me it's probably Pain/Pein.

Sure he had a God complex but don't we all every now and then? His ideas and philosophy, though twisted, were very honest and blunt. He didn't sugarcoat things to suit other people and told things for how they were. His speeches about hatred and pain were very inspirational and he was probably one of the most developed (though others may argue) characters of the series.

Pain's determination to force peace on the world through any means neccessary and his decision to take matters into his own hands showed his strength (which he fully backed up with the Rinnegan). And, let's face it, if Naruto hadn't fought and met Pain, he wouldn't be the same person he is now. Naruto grew up a lot during that battle and Pain inspired him to follow his own path towards peace.

I chose 'Pain' rather than Nagato because I find Nagato quite childish, dunno why but I preferred him as Pain.

greatest for me would still be hashirama. Yeah he is the God of Shinobi but mainly he created the structure for the villages in the current time line going on right now. He created a unified peace so to speak but it was the biggest and hugest step anyone could take

i agree, but i think itachi was the greatest shinobi in the series.

Hashirama is more like a protector and defender in my opinion whereas Madara is just like a machine, destroying anything and everything in it's path. :yeah:

Naruto initially, his drive and determination against all odds inspired me in part one, it's played down a bit now though.

Gaara is the main one for me, his struggle proved for me that anyone is redeemable and no one is alone forever.
