Google is killing off Google Reader, their RSS aggregation tool, citing declining popularity. Google Reader will be retired officially on July 1, 2013 and will be missed by many. However, there are alternatives out there and Google have made it easy to transfer from their service to another RSS aggregation tool; though non are loved much like Google Reader. Many people including myself did not read their RSS feeds through Google Reader, though they did use it as a 'middle man' between their actual RSS readers and their beloved sites. I personally think that I will miss it and its simplicity.

I'll probably end up switching to an alternative, actually I'll probably end up switching to two alternatives. My first alternative is the one I use on my phone, Feedly. They have announced that they will make their own alternative to Google Reader and there will be a seamless switch-over. However I do not use Feedly on my computer so I would use Net Vibes as my second alternative.

Well I never really used it. I often rely on flipboard, google currents, and pulse for my news, blogs, and social networking feeds. Google does that all the time to cancel unpopular services, and introduce new ones.

Really? Well I don't even know what it is :p

I still hate E-Books though ;)
Surprisingly ebooks are very convenient for me. My ipad is so much lighter than most of my college books so it eliminates unnecessary weight. Give it few more tries, you will get use to it.

what the .................... ?? glad you took the time to transfer this information , time to find another device to use :( , seriously I love google reader , why take it out , there are so many google services that no one even knows about .

EDIT : anybody know of a good alternative , I've found Feedly and the old reader but I absolutely LOVED the google reader add on which showed you the new feeds without going to google reader itself .

It's an RSS tool. It helps you keep up to date with your favourite sites.

I don't actually use Google Reader to read my various sites. Instead Google Reader transfers all of my websites to a third party app so that I can read them.

Yeah it's because Google Reader has had less usage in these past few years.
