Its one of the best games, though I kinda suggest that you play Halo and Halo 2 before hand. Plus theres a new version out called Reach which takes place before the original Halo. They are all really good games

Nothing compared to Halo 2.

Bungie really lost their shit after that game. I wouldn't buy it since it's dead now anyways, if you're going to get a Halo Game get Halo:Reach since people still play it. I play Halo:Reach, I'm very good but really it's just not fun. No rankings, and it's too easy.

But Halo 1 and Halo 2 are 10x better than each game.

H3 is better than reach, reach needs a title update immediately or it will die.
Reach is no where near death, no clue why you are thinking that. Its better than Black Ops and Medal of Honor, the story is richer, its better looking than both games and more entertaining. The only reason Black Ops outsold Reach was because of the Call of Duty fanboys who got ripped off with a game whose story line is horrible, looks like a early Xbox 360 game and controls are just messed. I prefer Reach over those two games and would rather play Halo multiplayer than deal with Black Ops. Its hard to be OP on Reach than Black Ops because everybody uses the same equipment and abilities where as in Black Ops you can have someone with abilities that make them OP campers i.e. dual wielding shotguns with certain perks.

Cosigned upon.

To me, Reach is better than Black Ops (Black Ops itself wasn't even better than MW2). One thing I like about it is the unexpectedness of it. You kill one person and note that they have the jetpack on. They might come back the next life with the sprint ability, hologram, or one of the others. The online play is where the real fun lies, as any skilled Halo player will tell you. The AI just doesn't cut it after a while lol.

Reach is better than BO, but the casual gamer doesn't believe so. I prefer reach because it takes skill unlike COD. (unless you play COD at a very high competitive level). The fact of the matter is that reach is not near the popularity of COD because of the gameplay. The bloom system on the DMR is completely broken, the shield system makes no sense, the grenades are too powerful, as well as the rockets. Yes I enjoy playing it because I'm not a casual gamer just looking to have fun, I like having actual competition. Reach fulfills that aspect but it doesn't mean that the game is as good as it could have been. No ranks? What am I playing for? They completely killed the matchmaking aspect for the better players, the only mode I play now is MLG playlist. It needs some sort of new update to make the game more playable, I agree with the bloom but it has to be executed better and I'm hoping that now that 343 has the rights to reach they will do SOMETHING. But without these aspects that were offered in H3 and H2 (ranks, consistent gameplay) you will lose a lot of fans. It shows, COD always has around 900,000 players, while reach averages much lower.

Halo Reach has ranks O_O I'm a Grade 2 Colonel

Plus remember this is suppose to before Halo and Halo 2 so the shields are going to be weaker than in Halo 2 and 3 because the armor is older in the story. you can't have something stronger in the storyline than a more advanced armor system. The Spartans in the first 3 halo games are Spartan 2's, which were stronger and had better equipment. The Spartans in Reach are Spartan 3's which according to the canon story, were produced cheaper and with less powerful equipment than Spartan 2's, but were made in far superior numbers.

because of that story line and whats canon, of course its going to seem like every weapon is made more powerful than before. But if you remember in the first Halo, all grenades killed in one explosion and rockets have always been the power weapon.

and btw 343 doesn't have the rights to bleach, Microsoft does and Bungie still works the servers and everything related to the online play. 343 is developing the remake of the original Halo: CE.

Honestly you review makes it seem like you are stuck in Halo 3 and don't really pay attention to any of the actual story of the Halo universe.

I don't like Halo 3 either. It's just better game play wise than reach.
No matter what the canon story is, the game shouldn't be bad because of it. And in terms of rank, I mean actual skill based ranks. Not ranks that you get even if you go -14 every game. 343 is the Halo branch of Microsoft, and 343 isn't the one working on the Halo HD, they are just overseeing it's production. Kind of like Ininity Ward with Treyerarch (sp?). I have faith in the game considering the 2 multi player leads from Halo 2 work for 343 so I expect the game to be good.

I don't think the story should have an effect on the game play. It should still be balanced, and the game mechanics should work. The bloom system would be fine, but they didn't make it consistent. The grenades being able to kill a person who has full health bars with 3/4 shields shouldn't happen. The rockets I can live with. But it's things like this that make the game worse than previous halo games. The halo franchise hasn't been the same since Halo 2. You cannot say that Halo 3 was better than Halo 2 game play wise.

adding on to ranks: It's annoying going into games with 2 other people and getting someone on my team who decides to quit out. In halo 3 and halo 2 this would rarely happen because you have ranks that you want to uphold. These ranks also match you up with people on your skill level, not with lesser players. It's not much of a discipline giving out a 15 minute ban after someone has quit out a few games in a row. They really don't lose anything, and it causes the team to suffer. Why care about not playing if you have nothing to lose? True skill ranks (1-50) would make the game 10x better. The credit system can still be implemented, but just adding those numbers next to peoples names showing how good they actually are will drive people to want to play. It worked so well in Halo 3 and Halo 2, why would they completely trash the system that worked so well for them for some cheesy COD rip-off?

Die?....If you go on H3 theres barely anyone playing it(I played a few rounds a week ago)...if you go on Reach, there 10x as many....not to mention it gets new playists nearly every month(I play). Halo Reach is no where close to dying. H3 on the other hand is fading.
Everyone has their opinions, but Reach is only getting better

I didn't say Halo 3 was still going strong, why would it be a new version has come out?

In terms of popularity Halo 3/2 were much more popular than reach.

When Halo 3 first came out, there was upwards of 900,000 people online at a time, Reach gets 200,000 on a good day. It's just not fun playing it, when there is nothing to really play for. When you can go -15 every game and still be the highest rank in the game, something is wrong.

Halo 3 is the worse of the whole series. Halo 2 multiplayer by far the greatest. It's not a bad game but it could have been allot better. Personally Halo 2 seemed so much faster paced and more intense, although Bungie said that Halo 3 "would be fast paced and more intense than halo 2" but when you play the game it's not intense at all, just ****ing boring.

Everything they took from Halo 2 and put in Halo 3 and tried to improve it(examples are the sniper and the BR) ended up being total shit. Like literally, BR spread is horrible, Snipers shoot hella slow and you cannot quick reload or do ((Y,Y)) I personally feel that the Halo online franchise was ruined badly because of Halo 3. Such a terrible online. Although the story is good but not as great as Halo Combat Evolved or that of Halo Reach.

Halo 2 > Halo Combat Evolved > Halo Reach > Halo ODST > Halo 3

In terms of popularity Halo 3/2 were much more popular than reach.

When Halo 3 first came out, there was upwards of 900,000 people online at a time, Reach gets 200,000 on a good day. It's just not fun playing it, when there is nothing to really play for. When you can go -15 every game and still be the highest rank in the game, something is wrong.
Halo 2 was the most popular of the entire series.

To let you know, Halo 3 received just a little over 345 000 players on I believe it's first day(hugely due to people believing it was like Halo 2 online) it did NOT reach past 524 000 players online at it's release or near it's release -- Although bungie says that Halo 3 logged in 1.2 million "new" users but that is total BS because there is no way that 1.2 million players just showed up, there was obviously 72% of that number being second accounts, third accounts or even 4 + accounts. Reach received more than 900 000 players online at one time(beta for Reach had over 2.7 million players), then it reduced to averaging 500 000 then it went down to around 250 000 players. Now as I do not know since I have not been on Reach since the Dashboard update that included AP2.5 to Reach. And I'm not willing to buy the game.

Rank doesn't matter, people BOOST in every way possible. Reach is technically the only legit one of the series since you play and you rank up via COD style of play. Halo 3 was doubles, new account and 20 wins later you are a 50.

The first Halo is by far the best of the whole saga.
The Reach was a bit of a disapointment in my opinion. It was a bit boring and it felt like it was made out of a whim, kind of.

2nd was a big hit for sure! Offered some new cool stuff to do and so on but the 3rd...didn't give so much as I hoped. But sure, they are all playable and entertaining.
Good games to play with a mate :) One of the very, very few games that allow a good, solid co-op campaign!

But like Rag said, complete the first ones before hand.
