[Discussion] Gon Failed?

In the beginning of the hunter x hunter exam, phase one. How comes Gon was disqualified but was still able to complete the exam.

Its been bugging me ever since

That was killua who failed but later on, He retook and passed it.

Could also be referring to the cooking test? Everyone failed that on the first try though.

Gon doesn't get disqualified. Only Killua gets disqualified in the final phase by killing his opponent. He then retakes the exam next year.

At the end of episode 3, phase 1 starts and everyone starts to run. No one gets disqualified apart from one random person. It's obviously not Gon. Just because 404 applicants are participating doesn't mean that applicants with numbers 1-404 are the only ones participating. A random person got disqualified not the 405th applicant (Gon) .

I rewatched the end of ep3 now and they only said, that one was already disqualified.
Gon was the 405th person to come in, so he had the 405th number.
That doesn't mean that he was disqualified only because he had number 405 and there were only 404 left.
It's just a number, someone else failed.

This as others have answered. Someone was dq'd before the running even started it wasn't Gon.
