[Question] Gold Roger or Gol D. Roger?

The dubbed versions call him Gold Roger while the subtitled episodes spell it as Gol D. Roger. In the subtitle version it is similar to Monkey D. Luffy but does this mean that Luffy's name is Monkeyd or Gold Rogers name is Gol?

It is actually Gol D. Roger, but due to him becomming King of the Pirates his Epitaph became Gold Roger.

Monkey D. Luffy is the correct way to pronounce it as opposed to Monkeyd Luffy ^.^

The D is a separate entity that is pretty much like a Middle Name Initial
