After grand kai awakned his full potential he never went ss, ss2. And said he was stronger then gotenks ss3 and smarter then Piccolo in his fight with Buu(after buu both gotenks and Piccolo absorbed), also became more confident and his attitude shifted towards being more like Vegeto instead of kind goku like. Now the thing is he didn't stay in that form after dying or getting absorbed by Buu, as you can see in both of the last movies(he is back to normal). The question is what is the cannon explanation of this form if any and why did he go back to being normal afterwards? (Also he is called Ultimate gohan in bt games(ps2) so I am using that, some call him mystic gohan)

I believe they referred to him as a mystic Sayain since he didn't change like the traditional super sayain. He was basically Super Sayain 3 with out the hair change. But I agree with what Unbiased posted

After receiving the Dai Kaio's special ritual, he can access his own power reserves without having to go through the arduous training that someone like goku would need to do just to have access to the same power.
Gohan basically has SSJ3-like strength and Dai-kaio found a shortcut to it

The mystic form is a transformation that is separate from his base form and ssj transformations.
Gohan is able to power up into his mystic form at any time, granting him power beyond ssj3 goku and ssj3 gotenks.
He can power up even further by transforming into ssj while in his mystic state. This is similar to how goku and vegeta can become super saiyans while in their god forms

Basically he got full access to his Super Saiyan powers without the energy expendature that each form costs to transform and maintain. The higher the form the more energy output is needed to transform and even more is required to maintain it, which is why Goku's SSJ3 might be a 400x multiplier but is arguably his most useless form. Gohan could still transform into a SSJ, but there's no point since his base form gave him access to that power. His lack of training cost him that gift though, which he admitted/implied in the new movie.

That's not true. Turning ss while mystic would be a step backward for Gohan. SSJ only multiplies your power if you're weaker than you were when you transformed.
Imagine a lightbulb that shines super brightly even when it's off. When u turn it on its only gonna shine at the level that the energy it's receiving it's gonna allow it to shine at.
If that level of energy is less than the normal energy the lightbulb gives off when it's off, then it won't shine as bright
Wrong, the daizenshuu 2( one of the data books) stated that gohan could go ssj while in mystic form. He also did so in the latest movie
Nice but that's not how ssj transformations work. If that was how they worked goku and vegeta would not have been able to transform into ssj while having their god powers.

You know whats a bit ironic? This new SSG form kinda had a similiar effect of activating it. When Goku went SSG for the first time, his hair stayed the same. He just got red aura with a less muscular body. Mystic Gohan kinda seems similar to this form. Like its just another way for a pure sayain to unlock his full abilities. That is why one has to wonder why Gohan never went through a similar training as Goku and Vegeta?
