It's the only reasonable kind of story that chakra could come from. What the beast vomited a chest. so the woman opened that chest only to realize it's another chest she keeps opening one after the other. Until she got tired so she went up to the juubi took a bite because she was so furious. The juubi then admired the woman and gave her a cookie to which she ate the entire thing that gave her chakra. The juubi then tried to get revenge because it didn't get a bite. It's like what's a better story.

The Sage is still special in a way. Kishimoto is trying to make him a Christ figure who went around, taught people, and sacrificed himself for the good of the world. Only the gospel according to Kishimoto places more importance on the mother of this immaculate conception. Obviously I'm being somewhat tongue in cheek because Kishimoto blatantly rips off the Bible and his idiot fanbase just splooges all over themselves like he's thought of all this himself.

The God Tree can still be a "good" addition to the story, it depends on where the conclusion rests. We haven't been given all the info yet, we know not if it even is sentient. Surely it must be: You can't divide a non-sentient being into nine sentient parts. If so, it must have a reason for Juubissaulting humanity, and that might very well be a good one.

Honestly, I think it was a interesting, and appropriately mythic, twist. Whether Kishi has thought it through, though, remains to be seen.
