The story of the "God tree" is what?
At first glance it simply symbolizes stories from popular religions. Many say Christianity, some say Norse mythos and so on.
But what do those symbols symbolize in the world of Naruto?
The Rabbit Princess, Sage of the six paths, Ninshu, sage chakra , chakra all play a part in this.
There is a reason why Wood is the most powerful chakra element, Why the fruit was deemed forbidden.
Right to the point then.
The God tree represents religion. It was a pillar that the people worshiped. The tree symbolized Nature beneath that.
Religion was used to point people into respecting Nature above all. Even when Man fought, Nature was kept out of it.
Sage Chakra was part of this. Sage chakra being the energy of the earth was something that could not be manipulated without becoming one with Nature. Hench the title Sage.
The fruit on the God tree was another symbol. The fruit of Forbidden knowledge at first. BUT it represented Knowledge of another kind. It was the knowledge of how to manipulate the earth. Aka Chakra. Taking the earths elements and changing them into something else. It no longer required respect for the earth.
The Sages ideal represented Technology. He wanted to take the new founded knowledge and use it to connect. But instead it was used as and to create a weapon to kill. And this is why it was forbidden to take the fruit/chakra. Just like the computer has become a great tool, its now used to kill.
Without Nature there would be no elements to change into weapons. Without the God tree there would be no Normal Chakra.
Lastly, no matter how powerful the Chakra user becomes, Nature aka Sage Chakra will always be more powerful.
Even when we create the Atom bomb, simple storms are still more powerful.
The Rabbit Princess wanted to Trap and control the people of the world into a "Dream" using religion and the power she acquired from that fruit. A Perfect dream world like Heaven.
