Sorry if wrong area.
I'm not one to make a scene about things but the whole thing about almost 32k people complaining about who plays the lead actress is quite embarrassing.
"The Major is a bit of a mystery. She tends to keep her human emotions well under control, and what remains of her personal life she mostly keeps to herself. What is known is that she was involved in a near-fatal plane crash when she was only a child. As a result, she underwent full cyberization at the age of nine with the only organic part of her remaining being a portion of her brain. She also initially had trouble adapting to the use of her new body"
If this is correct it doesn't matter what color, race. Only organic part was the brain meaning a Full Prosthetic body.
Also, i want to mention while some Asians want to complain why an asian won't be casted for the role is how much is Ghost in the shell known worldwide? How many Asian Actresses are well know that could bring GITS more viewers then the fans it already has? I mean yes there are many who could fit the role. But Overral you have Viewers, how popular materials are etc.
Also i read that Batou was inspired by an american known as Steven Seagal? If thats true oh wow.
So while people complain about not having a certain race as a main role. Let me add a few things.
Why not cast a new face?
Ghost in the shell is well not known due to anime/manga being well limited outside of japan unless they own the manga or seen the anime after i believe it was 10pm on a certain american channel. A lesser known actor will not sufficently bring audiences interest into the movie or even more populace into the manga/anime world outside of japan.
Look what they did to dragon ball evolution?
Yeah, that was horrible. But they were limited on budget. Horrible cgi etc.
Overrall.
If a character is made white (color) its gonna be afffected to be white. A character being black will be black. Regardless of name.
I could be japanese with american name.
I could be black with the name Shinji.
