Chakra .
Chakra is the basis for any technique , even the most basic one . Also it is the moulding of the physical energy , and spiritual energy . In the body , there are 361 chakra points , or as known as Tenketsu . To control , gather or channel the chakra , the most common method are handseals . For different techniques , you need different handseals to mold the chakra differently . Most people have one natural affinity , but they can create elemental chakra apart from their own affinity . There are 5 basic chakras , which are stronger and weaker than each other . There's also a possibility to mix chakra , such as water and wind chakra , fire and earth chakra etc. The origin of the chakra comes from Shinju , known as the Ten Tails .
Types of Chakra
Bijuu Chakra .
As the name suggets , it is a Bijuu chakra . The Bijuus are creatures made from Hagormo Otsutsuki , which their chakra belongs to the original body of the Shinju . Bijuu chakra gives the jinchuuriki a very strong chakra which can surpass most of shinobi . Its color is red .
Senjutsu Chakra
This chakra is needed to perform Senjutsu attacks , or to activate Sage Mode . This chakra belongs to the nature itself . It is a very strong and versatile chakra , which can help the user's enhance their prowess on any element or aspect which can surpass most of people . Those with a huge chakra pool can go into a mode called Sennin Modo , or Sage mode , which can be performed by controlling three types of chakra , the other one being the natural energy .

I will say you are right. Bijuu and Sage chakra are types of chakra but right now I'm asking for the basics which are:

There are two ways to detect a genjutsu : Either realizing you got caught in it by analyzing the fake information you are recieving , or notice the distribution of the flow of your chakra points . Although the first option is a very hard one , since some users can make a genjutsu well detailed , which can fool you by thinking it is real . Sensory and Dojutsu users have it easy to detect that something is wrong with their chakra .
Genjutsu release
This is separated in three ways
1 - Noticing that something wrong with physical and spiritual chakra . You should disturb your physical chakra to do this . This can be done by producing pain . You should bite parts of your body , stab yourself with kunais in your hand or leg , sting yourself etc. By this , your chakra experienced a spike . This spike is a disturbance that will dispel other disturbances present in your chakra by unbalacing its flow and reseting it to its normal flow. The more the pain you cause to yourself , the bigger the spike .
2 - Noticing that something is wrong with physical and spiritual chakra . This is the opposite of the first one , to do this you need to disturb your spiritual chakra . This can be done through will . Persons with a strong will can break a genjutsu . You send spikes to your spiritual chakra through will power alone , making yourself to channel the chakra to halt or disturb the chakra flow .
3 - The third way is to have an ally who is able to use chakra transfer technique , by being able to transfer his/her own chakra into your body to help you break the genjutsu . Jinchuurikis are immune to Genjutsu , since the Bijuus have a huge pool of chakra alone , and can break any genjutsu , by giving the jinchuuriki chakra of themselves . Other way is to enter sage mode , because natural chakra can again disturb your flow . Or enter Curse Mark Mode , with the same reasoning as Sage Mode . These ways can release any genjutsu , except high level Mangekyo gen , such as Tsukuyomi .

This works as an ability for the user to cast more than one non-conflicting genjutsu to the target , mixing illusions . Any non conflicting genjutsu can be layered with another , as long as the higher ranked gen is used first , and the one afterwards .
When releasing from Layered Genjutsus, the target must perform counter sufficient for the highest rank genjutsu of the "combo", thus countering all at the same time.

Yea layering is not that hard. Its like combination of 2 or more genjutsu to form a big detailed one.
What we knew before was that when you cast a genjutsu then you cast another, that the first one becomes negated and only the second comes to play but actually you can cast 2 genjutsus on an opponent with both of them having effect on the target at the same time.
It follows some set of rules though meaning the first genjutsu must be higher in rank than the second genjutsu casted or same rank. Otherwise, the second genjutsu would erase the first genjutsu.

Okay lets start by gathering our chakra and focusing them.

It was a decent morning for Kladara and he was glad that he finally found a sensei , which seems a very good one . Attentively hearing the sensei , he began to do what he said . Kneading his chakra was not a big task for him , but the problem stands on spreading it on every 361 chakra points . A slow wind blowed and "fondled" Kladara a little . This made him feel more calm . After some moments he began to spread his gathered chakra on every tenketsu , slowly but he was doing a great progress with it . Doing the same process for every tenketsu sure took a while , but Kladara realized that he managed to spread his collected chakra on every tenketsu , and this made him relieved . "I did it ... !"

Hearing what sensei said , Kladara started to focus chakra and release it in the way to disturb the chkara flow of Priest . He did suceedded in it , a little though , but it was decent enough to create an illusion . Kladara tried to make Priest think that he was being bitten by big snakes . However , it still was easy to tell that the illusion was not a good one .

There is much more however that you can do. You can channel your chakra to a specific area that contains your target and change the way it looks. Since your target is within that vicinity, he is susceptible to the illusion thus his sense of sight tricked.
For example
I want you to channel your chakra around me(which is intant and not a wave) and cause an illusion that makes the plain ground to change to a grassy field. Because I'm in the range of the illusion, I would be caught in it and see only grasses.

Now for another sense of sight manipulation, you will begin by making five handseals(i told you what handseals are used for so apparently this requires 5 which means the focus you need is much). You will then instantly transfer your chakra to disturb my entire chakra flow. When succesfully done, you will manipulate what I see and make me see you dissolve into a shower of petals which would travel in a swirling motion towards me as if they are being carried by the wind and then swirl around me totally blocking my view of the terrain. Now on your end, you can move around even attack me since I won't actually know your position while I'm in the genjutsu.
