Genjutsu, literally meaning illusionary techniques, creates illusions that can be used offensively and as a distraction. It is performed like a ninjutsu, requiring chakra and sometimes, handseals. Genjutsu is performed by injecting the users chakra into the target's chakra system. By adding their chakra, they are able to manipulate the senses of the target and make them believe things happen that don't really happen. The genjutsu is not meant to cause physical pain, but emotional pain by creating genjutsu that will hit there senses and cause traumas. In some cases, a genjutsu can be so strong that it seems as if they are brainwashed. By inserting illusionary suggestions into the target's chakra system, they would be able to control the target like a slave. The Izanagi is another elite form of genjutsu, which actually does the opposite of what a genjutsu does. It removes the boundaries between illusions and reality, making the user almost invincible. Tsukiyomo and KA is probably the highest level of genjutsu a sharingan-holder can possess, it's illusionary prowess are feared throughout the naruto world and the illusion it casts is probably near to perfection. To release yourself from a genjutsu, you need to disrupt your chakra flow by adding more and more of your chakra into your chakra system, which would disrupt the chakra flow and patterns of your opponent's chakra. Another way is intense pain, which would be more painful compared to how strong and how high the genjutsu is. Also, a sharingan holder, or a doujutsu bio can realize they are at a genjutsu by looking at their body, and noticing that there is the opponent's chakra in their chakra system. It is easier to block eye-contact genjutsu by simply not making eye contact or concealing one's self like the hidden in mist jutsu. Lastly, genjutsu can be produced with sounds, like tayuya and her flute.

That text sorta hurts my eyes. Would you mind sticking with the default?

Yes, what you said is correct. Genjutsu is similar to Ninjutsu because it requries chakra like all techniques, but it is different because unlike Ninjutsu there is no physical manifestation of chakra. The chakra doesn't actually turn into a physical attack. Genjutsu attacks the opponent's mind. It affects the prosencephalon structure of the brain. The most important thing to remember about this section of the brain is that it controls emotions. Remember the Genjutsu cannot be used to force an opponent to do an exact action unless it is high level such as MS or EMS, or other really powerful Genjutsu. Common Genjutsu simply provide the opponent's mind with a proper situation in which the user inserts a certain basic response to the situation that is to the user's advantage. Those with sensing abilities or eye techniques (to the appropriate strength) can see and feel the differences in what is in their mind and what is actually happening.

Genjutsu is produced by inserting the user's chakra into the opponent's brain. The user manipulates his chakra in the opponent's Chakra Circulatory System in the opponent's brain to manipulate the opponent's senses to make the opponent see, hear, or even feel what the user wants them to.

Tell me the ways you can combat Genjutsu if you are caught in it. Describe the process of what you would think about when you may believe you are affect.

Okay, when in combat it may be hard to notice you're in an illusion. Also, it may be dangerous because the time you spend in the illusions inside your head is a time when you're vulnerable to attacks in reality. Genjutsu can be found easier by doujutsu users. When they look at their own body, more specifically there chakra points, they will notice that they're chakra and patterns to the system is irregular. They can send a surge of chakra in their chakra system in order to escape. However, it is more difficult when you are not a doujutsu user's. To be aware of your surroundings is the key to distinguishing reality from illusions. Make sure you know the terrain you're on, make sure you know what can and cannot happen in certain terrains. So, if you see petals coming down on an oceanic terrain, you know its a genjutsu because theres no trees anywhere. Also, if something out of the ordinary, a technique happens but you don't even see you're opponent weave signs or even move, then you will know you're in a genjutsu. Lastly, sine genjutsus appear and are out of the natural. Like body parts growing out of your own body, this out of the ordinary move is easily noticed as a genjutsu because it is almost impossible, just like memory genjutsus that strike your memories. However, there's a difference from releasing from a genjutsu then realizing you're in a genjutsu.

There are 3 safe ways to break through Genjutsu.

1. Pain: this method works in that pain alters the user's physical and spiritual energies allowing the user to break the opponent's control of your chakra system as the drastic change in the user's physical energy when the experience pain will cause then to break out. You must use the appropriate amount of pain to break out of the rank of Genjutsu that you are in. You can look at the pain to rank relationship in the official Genjutsu thread.

2. Surges of chakra: this method instead focuses on disrupting the spiritual energy in your system to break out of the Genjutsu. You can either do this using Kai in which it counts as a move and can dispel Genjutsu based on the rank of the user, or it can be done by sending a surge of chakra throughout your system like Nagashi. For the latter method, the surge technique can only break out of Genjutsu that is one rank lower. For example, Nagashi being A-rank can only break out of B-rank.

3. Foreign chakra: this is just jinchuu, Sage Mode, EIG, or other things that add different chakra to your system. This will break you out of anything except MS. It's the simplest method but also requires you have access to one of the modes or methods to add foreign chakra.

Tell me how you would recognize and analyze Genjutsu.

First, the illusion could possibly be very obvious and supernatural. Like when Itatchi used his genjutsu on naruto, making him believe Sasuke and Sakura were coming out of him. If something is out of the ordinary and seems impossible to happen, that can be a sign to a genjutsu.

Second, if you are a doujutsu user of course it would be easy to recognize a genjutsu by looking at your disrupted chakra system. However, recognizing it is different from releasing from it.

Third, if an attack happens where the opponent did not weave signs, or you did not look into there eyes. Say for example, if snakes began coming out from the ground out of no where and you were carefully watching your opponent the whole time, that means that ir would be in a genjutsu because your opponent hasn't used blood to summon anything.

When you are in a genjutsu, its important that you break out of the illusionary world as soon as possible. If it is a genjutsu where it restricts your vision or sight, it can be said that your opponent is planning on either hiding for a surprise attack or surprise you while you are not looking. If its an offensive genjutsu, your opponent might want to attack you for a distraction, so you would be focused on the illusionary attack instead of the real one. Lastly, if its an emotional or personal flashback of any sort, they might want to cause trauma to you and make you lose focus on the fight.

That's all I know :p feel free to enlighten me and correct me on any points. xD

Good now before we can begin the actual jutsu, you need to do a short training exercise. Genjutsu is all about the user's imagination. I want you to create a battle situation then apply your Genjutsu to the opponent and tell me how your Genjutsu affects the surroundings and his reaction to the Genjutsu, and how you can use what you created to your advantage. Keep it realistic.

Okay, sorry if this doesn't making sense but i have no idea what extent genjutsu can go up to. xD

Scenario: My and my opponent are in mid-range from each other, he is about to perform a technique that can be fatal if hit.

What i would do if w/ genjutsu to avoid or defend against his attack: I would use a genjutsu that would make the target believe im in another place, kind of like the 2nd Mizukage's giant clam's genjutsu. They would hit the mirage, or the fake me instead of the real me where i would be hiding and plotting a surprise attack.

Also, if there's a genjutsu that can alter the terrain, making the target believe theyre is a wall or something separating me from him, then i would also use a genjutsu like that.

Lastly, if a genjutsu does not require any handseal, i would use that so they would think the genjutsu would be real, and more convincing. :p

The first was not a good example because it is a special case because of the type of Genjutsu used, the second is a much more realistic example, but you can't tell you opponent what to do. Alright, you make a wall of earth rise up in front of them. That doesn't mean that if they were about to use a jutsu that they would immediately stop because of the wall. Perhaps if they were running then the wall would cause them to stop running because logically they cannot just slam through it. But say they are using a fire blast, they can just say whatever, he'll block my fire blast with the wall and just continue. What you affect in his mind must logically cause him to perform a simple action expected in the situation. Explain a situation where you affect you opponent's senses, and mention exactly what sense you affect. Now this time think more about how not him not any normal ninja in that situation including yourself would react. Then explain why his reaction is possible. For example, if I saw that I lost my right hand, I wouldn't be able to do hand seals. This is logical because I know that I cannot perform hand seals without a hand and thus have to stop. Try to come up with something but don't just copy my example. Yours should also be more detailed.

2nd try U_U*

I somewhat get it, but still might be confused, oh well i guess we'll find out how much i get it with my examples xD.

Okay, so here's a short example. If i wanted to hit my opponent with a jutsu that would be a quick one, i would perform a technique that would affect their sigh senses. I would perform a large-scale technique that would cover a wide range making sure that it would hit them. Say, if there is a genjutsu that would make it seem like they would not have any legs, it would make them unable to move and because of it, they would get hit. However, if they do somehow defend against the large-scale technique, i would use the C-rank earth technique, the bedrock coffin to completely crush them since they cannot move. I could also use any illusions that would make them immobilized and can't move.

Second example; I would hit their emotional senses. Before they attack me, i would make an illusion of the person they love the most in the world, to be standing right in front of me defending me from their attack. If all goes according to plan, they would believe that the person they loved was protecting me, meaning that the target would probably not want to attack since the one they love would be getting hit. If this happens, they would be more hesitant to attack the one they love. I could also add a genjutsu to amplify the feelings towards this person, making the illusion more believable and stronger.

Third example; okay this is a really short one but its general. If i wanted to attack my opponent without him thinking i'm attacking i would perform a genjutsu that affects both the hearing and the sight senses. I would make them believe, or see and hear an illusion of a distraction in the other side. Thus, they would turn their backs on the real me thinking that there would be an attack coming from their backs. With them not paying attention to me, i would be able to attack while they are under the genjutsu.

I could also use any illusions that would make them immobilized and can't move.
Pretty good example but you forgot to mention the most basic reaction someone would have when they lose their legs. It's not that they wouldn't be able to move. Heck, if I'm in danger and I need to get out. It doesn't matter if I don't have legs, I claw my way with my arms. So not moving isn't the initial response but it is indeed a side effect as motion would be greatly affected by the loss of legs. The first effect would be that the opponent falling down and not being able to stand. If you don't have any legs how are you going to stand. This is what creates the temporary opening. Remember that most genjutsu with the except of Tsukiyomi which in itself is an attack is used to create opening for attacks. Only an opening, there is never a guarantee that you can land the blow. I like the concept of attacking the opponent from below with earth because they lack legs to make sudden movements. Genjutsu that immobilizes the opponent are high class ie Sharingan/Demonic Toad, normal genjutsu can't do that.

Ummm... you're kinda pushing it. You can make an opponent feel a certain way but that doesn't mean that they have to react that way. Alright, you create a genjutsu of the person they most love, but what if they just realize its a genjutsu through their analysis and break out. Then nothing would stop them from continuing the attack. Genjutsu that can affect the senses at that level where the opponent is completely unable to overcome that sight is really advanced.

That is more of your classic genjutsu. You rely on your opponents instincts to affect how they would react. If your opponents thinks that someone else is also attacking them from the other side then it would draw their attention for even the briefest moment and take their eyes off of you and allow you to attack. Instead of actually telling the opponent what to you, the genjutsu causes and amplifies a common response.

You've explained them pretty well. The exercise it over. Any questions about the basics before we being jutsu?

Alright since this is different from the normal there is a different set of questions that you must answer for this, and I will explain it differently. I want you to explain:

-How the technique is performed. (which is basic for all techniques)
-What senses the genjutsu affects and how it affects them?
-How the genjutsu creates an opening for the attack.
-In what situations would use it, if you would use it at all. Provide reasoning.

Read over these before I post the first two jutsu. We will be going two at a time to start then move at one at a time once we get to the higher ranks.

( Magen: Kokoni Arazu no Jutsu ) - Demonic Illusion: False Surroundings Technique
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 10 (+5 if you use it double)
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user casts an illusion over an area that allows him to manipulate the way an area looks to fool an opponent. He can only change the way the terrain looks, and not any other feature.

This is a basic illusion that affects the way the opponent's sees the terrain. The main sense affected by this technique is sight. You cannot make the opponent feel certain aspects of the terrain such as making the ground rise up around them as that would exceed the capabilities of the technique. Each illusion has a limit to how much it can affect the opponent which is how it creates a certain opening. This technique use is used to manipulate the opponents sight of their surroundings to make it seem like everything around them had changed. Because this is a purely visual technique, an opponent with an eye technique able to see through it or a sensor, can brush it off like its nothing. When this technique is used, because the opponent sees the terrain differently, use it to your advantage to combine it with another attack or move. You can make an earth wall rise up skillfully to hide yourself from your opponents vision. If this is used against you, analyze the changes in terrain to detect whether they are possible or not.

( Genjutsu: Kahen Tonsou ) - Illusion Technique: Flower Petal Escape
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user makes five handseals, appearing to dissolve into a shower of cherry blossom petals. These petals surround the opponent, blocking his vision. This allows the user to mask his movement effectively.

This technique requires five hand seals and basically makes it seem as if the opponent escaped in a shower of cherry blossoms, and also blocks the opponents vision. This is similar to the first technique in that it manipulates only vision. You actually don't dissolve into cherry blossoms in the actual event of things but your opponents sees the even as if you dissolved. You can use this to momentarily escape your opponents sights so that you can launch a sneak attack at them. The power of this technique makes it so that it is easily able to be broken through various methods, just as the previous technique, but this isn't exactly meant to overpower your opponent. It is meant to confuse your opponent for a slight instant in which they cannot see your actions. In this time you could strategic set-ups that your opponent cannot respond to unless they god mod that you can use in the future.

1st Technique:
-How the technique is performed. (which is basic for all techniques): I gather my chakra and release it in the air. I direct it towards my opponents in any openings of their body, such as their eyes. I direct it towards their eyes where I add my chakra to their chakra system. I alter their normal chakra flow throughout their whole system, especially there eyes. With my chakra in their system, I am able to create illusions that would fool them (ocular illusions.)

-What senses the genjutsu affects and how it affects them? This genjutsu affects their sight. When my chakra is forced into their chakra system, I have the ability to alter what they see by messing up their chakra systems. With this technique, they will thing that the terrain is altered, which I will make them believe by altering the looks of certain parts of the terrain.

-How the genjutsu creates an opening for the attack. If I alter the looks of certain terrain, say I make it look like there are spikes that appeared out of the earth right in front of them. They will think that its actually spikes (hopefully lol) and focus on defending against it. When that does happen, I can attack them by surprise when they are occupied doing something else.

-In what situations would use it, if you would use it at all. Provide reasoning. So like stated above, I would use this technique to make it look like there is spikes coming out of the ground. When they realize it is only a genjutsu, they will react by releasing themselves from genjutsu. I could do this two or three more times with the same genjutsu. Then, i can make actual spikes come out and because they've seen genjutsu of spikes in the past turns, they might just ignore it and try releasing from it at first. When they do realize its real, they can get pierced by le spikes.

2nd Technique:
-How the technique is performed. (which is basic for all techniques) I create the five required handseals and send my chakra in the air. Then, I direct it towards an opining in my opponents body, like they're eyes. With the chakra in their chakra system, I disrupt their normal chakra flow everywhere especially their eyes. With my chakra I alter their senses of sight and make them belige that I would suddenly disappear in a rain of petals.

-What senses the genjutsu affects and how it affects them? This specific genjutsu affects the opponents sight. It is made to believe that petals would shower down on them, making it look as if you've dissolved into thin air. The remaining petals will be used to block their vision, giving to u the chance to do a techique without them knowing.

-How the genjutsu creates an opening for the attack. This genjutsu creates an opening for an attack by blocking their vision and making them believe petals are falling. While they are 'blind', you can attack them which would be hard for them to counter because their sight is blocked by the petals. However, this technique is relatively easy to recognize as an illusion so they can escape it rather quickly

-In what situations would use it, if you would use it at all. Provide reasoning. I would use this technique in the beginning of a spar. By using this technique it would block them completely of the vision of me, so that I could create a clone. I would use that clone to make it stay there while I go underground via hiding like a mole technique. Because they won't be able to see me until they release from the genjutsu, I am able to fool them by making them believe my clone is the real me while I plot a surprise attack.

Your second explanation is solid, but your first explanation though is okay doesn't exactly work. Remember if you make stone spikes rise up using a regular technique, there should be vibrations and changes in the earth itself. A skilled ninja can feel the earth changing underneath them without the use of any sensing skills basically because of both their feet and their ears, which can be used to hear the stone spikes cutting out of the earth as well. Since this technique manipulates only sight, they would be able to break down that this is an illusion as it doesn't show the signs of a regular stone spike technique.

( Genjutsu: Kasumi ) - Illusion Technique: Servant
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: 20
Description: The user does one handseal and throws a paper bomb at the enemy. The enemy, trapped in a genjutsu will see a clone of the user advancing upon him. As the paper bomb reaches the enemy, it explodes

( Kasumi Jūsha no Jutsu ) - Mist Servant Technique
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost:10
Damage Points: N/A
Description: This illusion creates numerous illusionary clones of the user that appear to emerge from the ground, trees, rocks, etc. If these clones are attacked, they appear to multiply. The user can co-ordinate his attacks with the clones to make it appear as if they are real.

The following two techniques are similar and different in certain aspect of their uses. I will explain them to you at the same time discussing these similarities and differences but I still want you to look at the techniques separately as you have done for previous techniques. But I would like it if you also added your thoughts on how the techniques relate to each other. Both techniques are same in that they both create illusions that look like clones. The first technique is different in that it requires one hand seals and turn a moving projectile into a clone which is why it needs the hand seal for more precise manipulation of your chakra in the opponent's brain while the second technique creates clones to come out of random places thus not requiring as much attention to detail. The first technique turns the paper bomb kunai into a clone of yourself that approaches toward the opponent, once it gets close the paper bomb explodes and your opponent doesn't expect the clone to be an illusion catching them off guard. The second causes clones to come out of the surroundings. This is made to seem like you gained an advantage in numbers. You opponent will because that they will have to deal with all of your clones at the same time. You simply affect their vision to produce projections of yourself around the opponent to make it seem like clones. while in the first technique you affect their vision to manipulate how they perceive the kunai and changing that into a clone. You can use the first technique to catch your opponent off guard by also making a shadow clone thus they wouldn't be able to tell the difference if they all attack him at the same time. But I want to make sure that you know that it is only short range, so it's uses are very limited. So the easiest way to counter to make your opponent pay for coming so close. Use a technique that can over a mere paper bomb and attack your opponent at the same time. The illusion won't even matter if you don't treat it as an illusion but take the opponent advancing toward you as a reason to attack. The second illusion extends up to mid range, but the clones are all illusions. So the easiest way is to use a large scale technique that can hit all the clones at the same time, so that the illusions can defend themselves. If the technique is used in close range, they use projectiles to determine that one of the clones is an illusion of the clones interactions with its environment to analyze you're in an illusion then break out of it through pain.

1st Technique:
-How the technique is performed. (which is basic for all techniques) I perform a single handseal and send my chakra into my opponents eyes, to enter their chakra system. Once my chakra enters their chakra system, they're chakra will be disrupted. I focus my chakra which is in their system and make it so that they will experience an illusion. I add more chakra in the eyes, because that is where tsion will rise place. Once my chakra settles in, I throw a single kunai with a papertag attatched, making it so that my opponent will think my kunai and paper bomb is a clone running towards him.

-What senses the genjutsu affects and how it affects them? This genjutsu affcts the opponents sight, making them seean illusion. Once my chakra disrupts their chakra system, I am able to alter their sight. The single kunai thrown will be a moving target for them, and because of my chakra I manipulate them to think that it is a clone running.

-How the genjutsu creates an opening for the attack. This genjutsu creates an opening for attacking by having your opponent focus on something else, like a clone. When they try attacking the clone, they're attacks will just go through which is when they'd realize it was a genjutsu. By the time they came to that realization I would have my next
technique set up already, probably one that is a large scale and would be hard to avoid. with that they will need to defend against a paper bomb and a large scale attack.

-In what situations would use it, if you would use it at all. Provide reasoning. I would use this technique if my opponent is running towards me. Right when they reacshort range I can use this technique, and becausthkunai takes little time to throw, it can be performed quickly. It will stop them making them believe that they'd have to defend against the kunai, and because of short range, it would be quite easy to attack with a short range tech that is fast as well.

2nd Technique:
-How the technique is performed. (which is basic for all techniques) I release my chakra and inject it in my opponents chakra system. After doing so, I am able to disrupt their chakra flow and make them see illusions. I add extra chakra in the eye area, knowing that this technique would be an optical one. After injecting my chakra and disrupting their chakra flow, I make them see an illusion where many, many of my clones are rising up from the ground.

-What senses the genjutsu affects and how it affects them? It Affects the sight of the opponent. It would make them believe that tens and hundreds of my clones are appearing from the ground, which can overwhelm them by the numbers.

-How the genjutsu creates an opening for the attack. It creates an opening by keeping your opponents fixated on other targets. The numbers of these clones are a lot, meaning it would be hard to find out which one's real unless they break out of the genjutsu. This creates an opening by camouflaging in with the illusionary clones, so it would be hard to find me. Then, i can create a surprise attack behind a clone where i can't be seen and blast it right through the clone since its only an illusion.

-In what situations would use it, if you would use it at all. Provide reasoning. Not really sure about this, but I think I can create an opening for an attack by doing it to cover for me. I can create a normal clone and with this genjutsu We'd fit right in because of the swarm of clones so we wouldn't be noticed. We can hide behind one clone and be at the opposite side and create some sort of elemental spear to throw at them through the illusionary clones. This would happen because they are illusionary, they would not poof away unless the opponent breaks out of the genjutsu and the spear would just go through the illusionary clones. (by spear i mean lightning spear, water spear, etc.)

These two techniques are similar because they consist of clones made of illusions. They can fool the opponent into thinking that these clones are harmful, however, they are not, except for the first one. They are different in terms of movement. The first one has more movement since it runs towards the opponents while the second one only multiplies in numbers.

Description: The user performs two handseals causing it to appear as if a swirl of leaves surrounds the opponent. The swirl eventually falls away, and after a few seconds, the opponent sees the image of whatever they fear the most, shocking them and potentially causing them to faint.

This is a visual based genjutsu but is it a little more complicated than the previous ones. Remember how I said that the region that you input your chakra into the opponent's brain is the region that controls emotions. That fact plays an incredibly important role in genjutsu such as this. This technique requires two hand seals because of this fact in that it requires even more precise manipulation of you chakra in the opponent's brain. The first part of the technique involves using your chakra to manipulate the opponent's vision. You will simply make them see a swirl of leaves that temporarily blocks their vision. You then use your chakra to find and amplify their fear. This is the emotion that you want to bring out with this technique. You will not cause the opponent to fear anything, but instead you will simply use what they already fear against them. By using your chakra to manipulate the opponent's mind and emotions, you can cause the fear to build up to great proportions. You then project the fear using your manipulation of their vision to make them see what they fear after the leaves fade away. By combining the amplification of the fear to some extent with the impact of the opponent being presented with the fear visual you create a short opening in which you shock them. Now to the truth of this technique. It is very weak and thus skilled ninja can easily break out of it. To be honest, there is no real use from this technique perhaps than to interrupt your opponent's move where they simply cut themselves to break out. The jutsu can be easily be perceived as genjutsu because it is unrealistic for someone's fears to just arise out of thin air. If it is used on you, just reason yourself on why its not possible, and cut yourself to break out. Ultimately not a good technique to use. I find only False Surroundings be useful of all the D-ranks.
