Genjutsu VS Taijutsu?

In the case mentioned (Eight Gates vs. Kotoamatsukami) Genjutsu is superior for the simple facts that it will not inhibit or kill and you and is undetectable.

However

I would say that Overall Taijutsu is more prudent as a primary fighting style

1. Genjutsu can be dispelled alone by a skilled enough ninja
2. Genjutsu can be dispelled by an outside source disrupting the victims chakra, by a simple tap
3. Most Genjutsu is not as powerful as Kotoamatsukami and Tsukyomi or the 2nd Mizukage's clam thing
4. Most Genjutsu requires hand seals whereas Taijutsu does not
5. Most Genjutsu (aside from super powerful ones) may cause one to believe that they are in pain but it still inflicts no physical trauma and once physical trauma is inflicted the Genjutsu is usually broken
6. The Glaring weakness in Normal Genjutsu is perception, how quickly someone is able to perceive that they are trapped in a Genjutsu ultimately effects the usefulness of a Genjutsu since a ninja perceptive enough to quickly realize when he/she is trapped in a Genjutsu is also likely to be able to quickly free himself (except in the most advanced cases)

Conversely Taijutsu is straightforward and simple but devastatingly effective while its effectiveness ultimately dependent on the strenght and speed of the user it is still a quicker and more prudent alternative because unlike Genjutsu it
1. Requires No precise Chakra Control
2. Usually has no prep
3. No Hand seals ( Last couple gates being the obvious exception)
4. Causes actual physical trauma
5. Is simple to learn and improve


Sorry for being long winded but I honestly feel that Genjutsu may have its merits and advantages but ultimately it requires special people to practice it whereas taijutsu can be learned and mastered by virtually anyone.
