Genjutsu should NOT be one of the basic three ninja jutsu types

Plenty of shinobi utilize genjutsu it's just not shown as much because it's more cerebral and most ppl have short attention spans and lose interest unless something is blowing up. also plenty of non uchiha use genjutsu, Kurenai, the girl that hates shikamaru from the sound 4, Ma and Pop (the frogs that help Jariya), Kabuto, I can't remember but Haku's mirror technique could have been a form of genjutsu, the 4th mizukage also had a mirror technique... these one's came to mind

And that's exactly why it should not be classified as basic. Its only used by elite ninja.

I stated why it's feared. Even Chuunin ranked Uchihas knew how to use it easily. Tayuya knew how to use one and got beaten by Genin-ranked Temari. It's one of the three basics, since Senjutsu is even more rare. There's only been DSM and TSM showed in the manga, while Genjutsu is used by an entire clan and even Senju. If you'd have to list the three most used jutsu's they're Taijutsu, Genjutsu and Ninjutsu.

No. There's jutsu's that can be only used in SM. For example DSM. Now I'm not sure if I'm understanding you. You just accepted the fact that it should be one of the basics right? + Madara and Obito have Sharingan. You can't use Genjutsu against Sharingan it would be a suicide. Itachi proved this. + Rinnegan broke out of the Genjutsu. It's logical to not use it in this situation.

I know its futile. I was just replying to an earlier comment by someone stating that none of the kage have any genjutsu feats which was rather obvious.

Of course. You don't usually start with only Ninjutsu. You first attack with Taijutsu following with Ninjutsu. Genjutsu is only good when torturing. It's not good for actual kill unless the Bringer of Darkness. And we don't know about other nations or villages. We saw them during the war arc and Genjutsu is basically useless against Edo's and Uchiha's. But yeah currently it is. Still it's one of the basics unles a new feat shows up that is more common.

Just because it's not used by everyone doesn't make it any less relevant. Everybody wasn't meant to do everything. That's why some people are called a "genius" in the manga and some are not. Sasuke can use all three. Gaara mostly stands there like a statue and does ninjutsu. Shikamaru mainly does taijutsu and ninjutsu, Lee only does taijutsu, but they all are good at what they do. It's like the "nature affinity," if someone can only has a affinity to wind are you saying the others shouldn't be counted as a nature type?
