Genjutsu is really overrated . look at all those random fodder ninjas that could do izanami , izanagi etc etc. and also perform genjutsu like it was nothing.
If Genjutsu is really that powerful as hyped by the fanboys then why didn't uchihaa clan defeated Senju clan because all Uchihaa can cast sharingan genjutsu so it shouldn't had been that difficult.

Like its nothing, it costs them an eye to use that type genjutsu...maybe they did they aren't ANY senju left (Tsuande doesn't count she's 1/4 senju hell obito is more senju than tsaunde) but the entire uchiha clan was still pumping and jumping until about 16 years ago, i believe (speculation) madara hit the 1st with a genjutsu that is why he lived so long and lead the first to believe he was dead

Like many have already said it depends on the genjutsu user.Itachi for example can make the simplest genjutsu deadly because he is a master at it.

Nah genjutsu is OP'd but it's harder to learn/utilizie. That is why there is so little genjutsu users compared to the other forms. The ultimate technique in the manga is genjutsu after all.

IMO both,It is sometimes underrated and something seriously overrated.I don't think Genjutsu should be that overpowered ability I like it as a simple battle tactic I mean the way Sasuke used it against Danzo is more impressive than how Itachi uses it.

Depending on how you utilized to be honest if your up against a large stamina animal like characther example jiariya put 3 out of the 6 paths under a genjutsu then same path that smashed of the hidden leaf.

The fact that Genjutsu has been used in such a minimal amount in this final battle should give you the answer. Genjutsu is useless against high level fighters.

It depends on the user and the Ranking fo the Genjutsu. Not all Gentjutsu is OP. Look at the sleep Genjutsu Kabuto used during the Chuunin exams. A young Sakura, Gai, and Kakashi were able to release it even though Sakura is originally a genjutsu type, Gai and kakashi are not.

The reason the misconception that genjutsu is OP comes from the use of MS Genjutsu and Sharingan Genjutsu. These are special jutsu related to the Uchiha Dojutsu. These ones are OP because most of them are ranked from A-Forbidden. Other smaller scale genjutsu we've seen have only ever been used on non important ninja. Genjutsu used by Itachi is scaled differently because he is a genjutsu type and a master at it perfroming jutsu by merely pointing at you where others have to perform the handseals.

Overall, Genjutsu is not overpowered, but rathered balanced by those who are capable of using it, and those who are capable of releasing it.

That disruption of the chakra isn't that easy >_>

Sakura had great control over her chakra so she was capable to do that at that age. One of the most powerful Genjutsu is the Sharingan Genjutsu which is almost impossible to break out.

Genjutsu can only used by people who are capable of doing it by using their chakra like Itachi, Sasuke and some other people. Even Jiraiya had tough time to break out of Genjutsu.

Well Shikamaru also escaped Kabuto's genjutsu and so did Shino. In Sakura's case, Kakashi taught her how to break genjutsus because she had good chakra control and was a genjutsu type. For Shikamaru, I think Asuma wanted to make sure Shikamaru was prepared to fight genjutsus users since he favor Shikamaru and Shino's Sensei, Kurenai, is a genjutsu expert. Also I don't remember Jiraiya being in a genjutsu, when was he in one?

For a while in Naruto, I've had one single pet peeve that stands above the rest:

Genjutsu.

Genjutsu messes with chakra in the brain, making you hallucinate, fall asleep, mind controlled, influenced, etc. Not only that, it can easily be implemented into most battles and is relatively common place.

A few of the most powerful Genjutsus in the manga. Are they possible to counter?

But does that really make sense? Could Genjutsu really exist in this world of shinobis without being abused? It seems, coupled with a shinobi's speed, that almost any Genjutsu technique is a one-shot kill when followed by a kunai and a blitz. Looking at just a couple lower tier genjutsus show us the ability to restrict your opponent, whether it be physically or mentally.

Now, considering how easily one can put an opponent into a genjutsu (at times it only takes a glance in the wrong direction, or hearing a sound), wouldn't this be THE supreme shinobi technique? I'd be teaching ALL my students to develop proficiency in Genjutsu. Look at Itachi Uchiha, probably the most famous of all Genjutsu users. In theory, with his Genjutsu techniques, he can beat anybody in the Narutoverse. This obviously isn't the case, however, which leads me to my next point.

Perhaps Genjutsu is just overrated. Jiraiya explains:

Could the counter for Genjutsu be that simple? Is this why it's not as frequently used as it should be, in theory? If the counter is to simply disrupt your chakra flow, most capable shinobi could manage that. On top of that, when we see Kabuto cast a mass Genjutsu:

We see Gai and even Sakura break out of it with ease! If all it took was a simple "Kai" and disruption of chakra, perhaps Genjutsu isn't as useful as one would think it would be.

So, what do you think? Genjutsu, overpowered, or overrated?

I don't think it's neither, some people just aren't genjutsu types but train to be able to defend from them. Jiraiya isn't a genjutsu type but he knows how to avoid and break them and taught Naruto how to break them but Naruto is a hands on learner, he has to feel/experience how it is to break out of strong genjutsu just like how he knew the ratio to make a tbb but needed to know how it felt to actually do it and did do it himself after Kurama helped him use it in BM.

We see Kakashi, Gai, Kurenia break out of genjutsus so jounins are pretty skilled in that aspect but we also saw Sakura, Shikamaru and Shino escape Kabuto genjutsu during the chunin exams. Genjutsu, like any other technique, will be effective or not depending on the caster, if they're skilled or smart enough to use it then it can be a powerful told but if they suck at using it then it would be a waste to use.
