The Rinnegan is an evolution of the Sharingan, so naturally it should be included in that same statement. But I know Mangapanda's translations weren't exactly top-notch during that time, so I got the VIZ translation. And this is what Itachi says:

Normal vision-based genjutsu is powerless against ocular powers.

Now obviously this isn't an absolute, as Danzo, Kakashi, and Part 1 Sasuke were all put under Genjutsu before. But notice how all of these people were inexperienced with the Sharingan (Kakashi and Sasuke), or too arrogant (Danzo). Nagato, on the other hand, had the Rinnegan for 30+ years, and we even got a glimpse of how strong his defense was against Genjutsu when the Konoha ninja tried entering Pain's mind. So he should definitely be one of those who vision-based Genjutsu is useless against. Notice how Edo Itachi, someone who has utilized Genjutsu in all of his fights, didn't even attempt any Sharingan Genjutsu against Edo Nagato.

Second, Nagato was said to have mastered all the elements, including Yin Release. And Nidaime Mizukage, a master of Genjutsu, said that Genjutsu falls under Yin Release. So naturally I'd assume that a master of Yin Release, and thus Genjutsu, wouldn't have Genjutsu as his primary weakness (contrary to what many users say). So not only is Nagato immune to vision-based Genjutsu (see above), but he should be more than capable of countering other forms of Genjutsu too. People seem to overlook the fact that he mastered Yin Release though.​

The frogs' genjutsu was sound based, which is most likely why it worked. Also when Itachi and Sasuke were fighting Kabuto, Kabuto used Tayuya's sound based genjutsu and it was effective on them both.
So yes, you're right in that the Sharingan based genjutsu won't work. But that doesn't include the sound based ones.

I agree.. he's eyes are superior to all eye's we know.. and we still don't know everything about rinnegan it's abilities are almost endless.

that Frog Song is probably the strongest genjutsu once completed. area of effect and cannot be broken by the sharingan, and renders the victims completely powerless. It's definitely not Nagato's weakness, if a comparatively low level genjutsu of Tayuya's could trap two mangekyou sharingan users and end the fight if they didn't have each other

too bad nagato's rinnegan can't turn into a sharingan. Genjustu is his weakness because he had not been taught how to counter or dispel genjustu. Also nagato is not the master of all elements, we only saw him use one (wind). He can't do nothing more.
Rinnegan users like the s06p can do all elements( we all know why) senju+uchiha=s06p

Nagato doesn't have the same eyes like Itachi anyways, his eye didn't developed through stages. You couldn't cast a Genjutu at an Uchiha who developed his Rinnegan from a Sharingan but Nagato is only using an implanted Rinnegan, what doesn't make him automatically resistant to Genjutsu. If you refer to Tsukuyomi, Itachi stated that you need to be a clansmen with the Sharingan, in order to see through illusions, the Sharingans ability allows this.

I also remember Itachi saying, that he and Nagato, together with their both Doujutsus could do almost anything, he was referring to the power of both, his and Nagatos Dojutsu, what actually doesn't make Nagato superior in all points though his Doujutsu was supposed to be the strongest and an evolution of the Sharingan. The Sharingan develops from the Sharingan and by those where it is the case, can use the power of both Doujutsus, Nagato cannot. The Rinnegan and Sharingan, are still two separate Doujutsus.

Sound Genjutsu will be useless on Sharingen as it is solely dependent on eyes. Kabuto's White Rage emplyed the use of blinding light to render their Sharingen's abilities useless. So genjutsu is Nagato's weakness but not uchiha's in this regard.
