Genjutsu is broken

Genjutsu is so useful but never barely used by high leveled opponents unless you're an Uchiha. I think that it's weird since it is a really important part of a shinobis arsenal. And we've had some instances of great genjutsu, not including sharingan. Kurenai also became a jounin because of her genjutsu skills.

But right now genjutsu is broken. We either have fodder genjutsu (genjutsu from handseals and not sharingan) and mega OP sharingan genjutsu. Also, sharingan beats all other genjutsu so gg. This is pretty much established at this point.

But what happened to other useful genjutsu techniques? What about the second hokages "Absolute darkness" that he used against hiruzen as an edo? That must be one of the most useful techniques ever. He didn't think about using it against Madara now in the war? It may have upped his alleged fodder status

I always thought that Tobiramas genjutsu was a powerful hokage only jutsu, but it seems that it was forgotten.

Genjutsu is the most combat viable of all Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, and Taijutsu.

Hashirama used it, not Tobirama. And, Sharingan can easily break through Genjutsu. Madara would've broken out of the Genjutsu in no time.

I think it isn't used because most genjustu shown are by Uchiha and theres like 3-4 of them

plus it's the easiest to get off

No I didn't. I chose not to include it since I was comparing sharingan genjutsu against hand seal genjutsu. Sound genjutsu is OP beyond belief.

Gejutsu isn't as easy to learn as ninjutsu. Genjutsu takes a lot more dexterity to pull off.

Genjutsu doesn't work that well against high tiers like Obito and Madara. Sure, it can be effective, but only under certain circumstances and this war wasn't a good one. The Sharingan allows Uchiha to see through Genjutsu, along with Hashirama's cells, it's futile to use it against them. Also, BoD doesn't work on a Sharingan user and was used by Hashirama, not Tobirama.

Naw, the opponent would easily notice that it's a Genjutsu due to sudden darkness, and put themselves out of it using Kai.

Not really, Killer Bee and Gaara have counters for it. There's others that do too, but this is just off the top of my head.

Not really. Hiruzen probably had it, but they didn't show it, because I guess Kishi wanted to hype up that Genjutsu back then.
Eh, not really again. The Genjutsu Rin was placed in wasn't fodder Genjutsu.
