So... genjutsu... Illusionary Arts... Tell me what you know of genjutsu, how it effects your target, how to release it and how to... yeah, those two points will do for the moment xD

Genjutsu is the ability Fø̲̣̣я̅ a shinobi/ninja to create false imagery in the victim eyes. This fake image in turn have a bad effect on the opponent brain causing neurological damages. Most genjutsu can be execute by eye contact, others by altering the opponent chakra flow to the head..

What you described is generally in the realms of Sharingan genjutsu, or rather high ranked genjutsu. Most genjutsu don't inflict damage themselves, but instead open the target up to being attacked, the larger portion of the genjutsu only effect what the target sees. Hand seals are the most common method for non-sharingan genjutsu to be activated.
Genjutsu can do more than that though, would have any clue how genjutsu takes effect and some of the other things genjutsu can do?

Genjutsu take effect by influencing one's five senses. The five senses are sight, smell, sound, taste and touch. A sound genjutsu focus on sound, sharingan genjutsu focus on sight, a pill(name I can't recall) focus on taste.
Genjutsu can be used to collect information., decide someone sense of direction and thinking.

Hmm, rightio.

So genjutsus affect your target by using your chakra to cause a disruption in their mental processes, in such a way that you can control the way they perceive things. You can make them 'feel' pain, see things that aren't there, hear things or wander off aimlessly.

Take a look around at this open, grassy field.

Now watch what the power of Genjutsu can do!

*Shinta proceeds to send his chakra out towards you, once it makes contact it enters your chakra network, targeting the optic nerves to alter the signals the brain is seeing. As you blink, you open your eyes to the exact same terrain, only it is covered in sand.*

So how you do think you'd release yourself from a genjutsu?

Yep, that is a method I'll teach a little later on. It is called 'Kai'. To break out of a low-rank genjutsu such as this one (D-rank) simply bite your finger as if you were attempting a summoning jutsu... or you can slice your finger on a sharp object.

Description: The user casts an illusion over an area that allows him to manipulate the way an area looks to fool an opponent. He can only change the way the terrain looks, and not any other feature.

That is the jutsu I used on you. I want you to try it on me now by doing the following; Transmit your chakra through the air, when it makes contact with me have it target my eyes to alter the signal they send to my brain. By doing this, you can make me see whatever change to the area you see fit; the sky colour, making the area covered in sand etc.
Before you go on, break out of the genjutsu I placed you in, by the method I described (Biting finger).

Ok, I place my index finger in my mouth and bite it hard enough to cause me pain, the surrounding sand begin to disappear... Nice.

I begin by releasing my chakra into the air and at the time control it toward you, as my chakra come in contact with you i direct it into your eyes, disturbing the chakra flow in your eye region I make you see the sky turn red, the ground turn black and the trees disappear (desert).

So tell me some ways you can use this in battle, to gain the upper edge on your opponent?

Ok.
This technique would help me gain control of my environment in the mind of my opponent.
A standing opponent: I would use the technique to blind my opponent from seeing my incoming attack.
A running opponent: I would make him see a big hole on the ground
hindering his movement

That method against a running opponent, that is very creative, but not all jutsu/attacks can be concealed by this genjutsu.

For example, Swamp of the Underworld, you can conceal that from your opponent so long as they don't see the hand seals for the jutsu and that it is in play before you create the swamp. However Fire Release-Running fire, that shoots a stream of fire along the ground, won't be as easy to conceal due to a number of factors.

One is that you can't cast a genjutsu and channel an attack at the same time, what are some other issues that make Running Fire, difficult to conceal? Think about what senses of your opponent, are not effected by this genjutsu.

This genjutsu seem to affect the vision aspect, a shinobi sensitive to his other senses(touch, sound, taste and smell) would become aware of it and break out of it.
Another issue using fire release- running fire would be;
-a burning fire produce sound as it travel
-the heat from the fire and;
-hand seal involved.

Now want I want you to do, is use your chakra to make me see you disappear into a torrent of flower petals that move to block my vision.

( Genjutsu: Kahen Tonsou ) - Illusion Technique: Flower Petal Escape

Description: The user makes five handseals, appearing to dissolve into a shower of cherry blossom petals. These petals surround the opponent, blocking his vision. This allows the user to mask his movement effectively.

Without making any hand seal I channel my chakra from my body toward your eye region, I use the air as my medium of chakra transfer.
As my chakra mix with your chakra flow in your eye region, I manipulate my chakra to alter the chakra flowing from your eyes to your brain. I then make five hand seal. you would now see me disperse into a shower of cherry petals. The petals would block your vision( result in you losing sight of me).
Use in battle:
- the genjutsu is mainly to mask my location from my opponent.
- I would use this move just before I use earth release - hiding like a mole to increase my chance of going underground undetected
- I can also use it to setup my opponent for a higher rank genjutsu like demonic illusion.
question: what are the five hand seal?

I should search up what the hand seals are before teaching you the jutsu xD
I searched Narutopedia and they say the seals are Tiger → Boar → Tiger → Horse → Ox.

Note that if you try and cast a higher ranked Genjutsu on me, while I'm under the influence of a low ranked gen, the lower ranked genjutsu would cease to work as the higher ranked overpowers it. This may lead to an erratic transfer from one gen to another, cluing the target into the fact you are performing genjutsu.

With one hand seal (Can't find which one) I you'll make your opponent see an illusionary clone running from your side, directly at them. When in fact you've thrown a kunai.

How would you deduce this is a genjutsu and how would you counter this?

I mold my chakra in my body and release it through my hand, my chakra would travel through the air toward you, when my chakra come in contact with you, it would travel up to your eye region and begin to alter your sense of sight, I do all of that without giving you a clue of what I had done. Now am set.
I begin by making a hand seal then I bring out a kunai from my bag with my free hand and thrown it at you, as I release the kunai, i manipulate your vision with my existing chakra in your eye region making you see an illusion where I form a clone and it run towards you. I would make sure the clone match the movement of the kunai so that it can be presume real by you.
Deduce it a illusion illusions don't produce shadow when hit by light, so I would take notice of that and know the clone is not real.
Another way would be do to throw a kunai at the clone, since it is a illusion the kunai would pass through the clone.
Way to counter when I find out it is a genjutsu I would distort my chakra flow for a moment which would make the clone disappear allowing me see to the real weapon of destruction, I would counter the kunai with another kunai to avoid wasting my jutsu slot.
Or I could treat the clone as the real thing and go for a wide range attack like Wind Release: Great Break Through which would take out the clone and its master. It like killing two bird with one stone.

Just remember that the genjutsu you just learnt, is only short range so you may not have that much time to counter the way you described. The Wind Jutsu would be your best bet xD
If you attack the illusion and knock away the kunai, the illusion would break since it effects how you see the kunai.

( Kasumi Jūsha no Jutsu ) - Mist Servant Technique

Description: This illusion creates numerous illusionary clones of the user that appear to emerge from the ground, trees, rocks, etc. If these clones are attacked, they appear to multiply. The user can co-ordinate his attacks with the clones to make it appear as if they are real.

This is just an advanced version of the jutsu you just learnt, having a greater range and the capacity to 'create' more clones. These clones reform when hit and if used how they were in the anime filler arc, you can make it look like they attack you by throwing Kunais etc. However, you need to be hidden unless you want to also be attacked with by your opponent in their attempt to stamp out the clones.

No need to perform this, instead we shall move on.

Description: The user performs two handseals causing it to appear as if a swirl of leaves surrounds the opponent. The swirl eventually falls away, and after a few seconds, the opponent sees the image of whatever they fear the most, shocking them and potentially causing them to faint.

*Shinta performs two hand seals, using his chakra to cause you to see a large swirl of leaves to surround you. The leaves start to block out your vision before falling away, in this time Shinta has used his chakra to tap into your mind and dig up your deepest fear, this image he then makes you see when the leaves fall away. The shock causes you to stagger back slightly, leaving you open to attack*

So... that's how you perform it. No need to perform this one either, just tell me how you'd break out of it.
