^^^Nope if "Let's say Itachi* cast a genjutsu on Gaara's artificial eye or real eye if Gaara can see his eye he gets caught.

There's no proof tht will or will not happen... But if tht senerio were to play out I doubt it would work cuz how could you harm something artificial like gaara sand eye thts like saying if itachi caught one of naruto's clones in genjutsu he cetchs naruto in it...

as far as I understand, many of the opinions above are correct.

Facts-

The sand is charged with Gaara´s mom chakra (so, if possible to do so, might disrupt G´s chakra flow in case of A) You know too, it doesn´t rely on G being conscious

However

Though different techniques, this riddle reminds me of Deidara, and how exactly genjutsu worked on his own work (the clay), "he who controls the craftsman, controls the art", so forth he was pawned by Itachi. The relation on this, is Deidara´s clay element is earth, so as Gaara´s sand, thoughts, feelings and chakra are related with flow, within a shinobi, which I´d say are light.

As we know, when Deidara tried to blow away G´s village, g was able to manipulate his mother´s sand in the sake of his village, which pushes me to think if being caught in genjutsu, he will lose control of his mother´s sand too
