Genjutsu Breakdown/ Explanation

Due to a lot of issues revolving around who isn't immune to genjutsu and who is immune to genjutsu I am making this thread to help people understand genjutsu a little more.

First off I would like to say that No one is immune to ALL forms of genjutsu and I will now label or categorize the types of genjutsu (FEEL FREE TO ADD what you feel is a type as well):

Optical Genjutsu
Sub Conscious Genjutsu
Conscious Genjutsu
Sound Genjutsu


These are the 4 types of genjutsu that I feel are the most prominent and I will break down each one and explain why I feel certain people are immune/vulnerable to these types of genjutsu. Also I would like to add that certain Genjutsu are a mix of the 4 up top.


Optical Genjutsu:

Optical Genjutsu which in short is a illusion that affects vision or is a visual manifestation that affects the users sight

Immune: Sharingan, Byakugan, Rinnegan
vulnerable: Everyone else

This is a jutsu that seems to blind the user in reality or play with the victims eyes but in reality there is nothing there:

Clearly with this type of genjutsu those with superior Ocular abilities can see through it but others will fall victim to it.

Sub Conscious Genjutsu:

This type of genjutsu is a jutsu that affects the user without them knowing and will prevent them from countering or releasing it. With this type of Genjutsu even if the user can break genjutsu it is useless since he will never knew he is under a genjutsu. IMO I believe this is the type of Genjutsu

was under when Madara/Obito was controlling him. It's possible Madara was controlling the beast and him thus making it seem he was perfect Jin but im not sure.

Immune: None
Vulernable: Everyone

Examples:

Shishu: koto amatsukami

Jutsu used on 4th Mizukage Yagura(Possibly)

Me personally I believe This type of genjutsu to be the most powerful since its the only one that can't be simply countered.

Conscious Genjutsu:

This type of genjutsu I would say is the basic/ easiest to break depending on the caster and the victim. Most users are immune to it but depending on the strength of caster some will have to dispel it i.e Itachi seems to be able to put even Sharingan users in a genjutsu. Majority of the genjutsu in the serious is this type of genjutsu.

Immune: Depending on the User but mainly Sharingan,Byakugan,Rinnegan,Jinchuuriki(After its released)
Vulnerable: Everyone else, Jinchuuriki (Temporarily)
Exemptions: Itachi, Danzo(Izanami), Obito (Izanami)

Examples:

Kurenai: No name Genjutsu

Sound Genjutsu:

Lastly this is a genjutsu that affects the victim by manipulating or causing damage to the auditory system. So far the only way to stop this is to shut out your hearing entirely. I would say this type of Genjutsu is the strongest in terms of combat since everyone is vulnerable to it and most don't suspect it.

Immune: None
Vulnerable: All
Excemptions: Deaf or block hearing.

Kabuto: Sage Mode - Hakugeki (Although it isn't a genjutsu, The effects from the sound does the same as if it was sound genjutsu)

Now as for the Genjutsu as a whole I believe that there are certain genjutsu that are hybrids of the different types of Genjutsu

The rinnegan isn't immune to genjutsu as far as we so far know, but good thread none the less.

Also, i would add that powerful genjutsu, such as the type itachi uses, copies the environment exactly except for one minor detail, causing the victim to not even know they're in a genjutsu, making breaking it extremely difficult and improbable until told they are in one. Ex. Itachi vs. Deidara, Itachi vs Naruto, Sasuke vs. Danzo, Sasuke vs. Deidara (although he had trained his eye to combat visual genjutsu)

not true, Itachi himself even said it's not a viable option in battle, and the person under the genjutsu can break it, and it even disables 1 of your eyes, tayuya's sound genjutsu is far superior

I believe its immune to base optical genjutsu but then again most the genjutsu in this series is a mix of the 4 types of genjutsu for example.. Itachi genjutsu would be Optical,Sub conscious, and Conscious. Thus making it extremely difficult to detect

Also place Hashirama's bringer of darkness under visual, and possibly conscious. Thank you for this, i'm tired of trying to explain to people that bringer of darkness is literally useless against a sharingan user.

The byakugan was never been used against genjutsu, so these are merely assumptions that the user can break it on his own.

Again, Izanami > Byakugan, Rinnegan

Yeah you did not read.... Read the entire post mainly the portion about Conscious genjutsu then you will understand what I mean. I listed 4 types and the rinnegan, byakugan, and Sharingan arent immune to all of them

@bold: Yes but this thread is more so how the Genjutsu catches the user more than what it actually does once there caught.

I agree with this since even tayuya's regular sound genjutsu nearly fodderized both itachi and sasuke.

Optical Genjutsu has no effect against Doujutsu users since they See Chakra Flow..

Izanami is a Sub conscious jutsu... Cant be stopped just like KA unless someone dispels them.

Btw common sense would tell you byakugan users can see through genjutsu since they can see chakra flow lol

"Placed on Mifune" not used against the Byakugan itself- that's a bit different, so it still a futile argument at all.
Though I mainly talked about Izanami not Kotoamatsukami.

I hardly believe that this guy will notice in time that somebody is using KA against him.

yeah Izanami is definitely a Sub Conscious genjutsu since the use does not know its on him
