Genjutsu Abuse?

I believe that Genjutsu was som sort of escapism for the Uchiha in peacetime, almost like a drug.
They would refuse the real world and cast a Genjutsu on themselves to escape reality. Or use it relive old memories of lost ones or create new fantasies. This could explain how the Uchihe became so proficient in the use of Genjutsu.

With Izanagi, they would fight over their ideal outcome for the future. It's not farfetched to say they would abuse Genjutsu to fantasize more.

But how would they cast it on themselves? Unless they casted it on each other, that makes sense.

Uchiha are good at genjutsu because the sharingan is a yin type power. And genjutsu falls under yin release. But I agree it is possible the uchiha used their sharingan genjutsu for such purposes

Sharingan automatically bestows genjutsu abilities onto the user anyway, look at Kakashi and his proficiency in using it's genjutsu power.

Well how many time has he really used genjutsu I mean really??? The last time I recall was on Sakura during the first bell test.... And sharingan wasn't even introduced yet really...
