*Waits in whatever training field will best suit this kind of training.*

*Thinks ... I haven't heard much about Dean but I've got high hopes since he's a friend of Elijah's.*

#Plain field.

Dean makes his way to the training grounds, with a small bag on his back. He heard that he would be teaching someone Genjutsu once more, however, this student was apparently trained by Elijah before. So he knew how things went, which was good, but this training would be a bit less..serious. Elijah was always a bit stiff, Dean thought as he walked. Within the distance, Dean could see his student wait for him. His attire consisted of a dark jacket, red shirt and dark pants and shoes. Over it, he carried his infamous Nekura cloak.

"Well, hello there. I am Dean Winchester, of the Nekura Clan. Heard you want to learn Genjutsu? Awesome. Its epic, I tell you. What do you know about it? Anything that comes to mind about Genjutsu. I tend to usually cover the theoretical aspect before getting into the techniques and what not."

I don't really know much so I'm just going to rattle off a smorgasbord of information and count on you to correct me where I'm wrong and/or mention anything I may have missed.

Genjutsu are illusions cast unto another person by using ones own chakra to manipulate that persons chakra flow and confuse their senses to make them experience a variety hallucinations at your whimsy. Genjutsu consist mainly of spiritual energy and deal no physical damage, instead focusing on dealing psychological damage.

Genjutsu can be cast in multiple ways -- through eye contact, by sight, by sound, etc. Sharingan users have demonstrated the ability to cast their own unique variety of powerful illusions as well as an ability to perceive when they themselves are under the thrall of such illusions, sub-sequentially dispelling them. Tayuya has also demonstrated the ability to use sound as a medium for trapping people in Genjutsu.

Signs that may indicate being caught in a Genjutsu are suddenly finding yourself in circumstances that deviate far from the scope of reality, even in this world where ninja can make use of chakra to achieve what would ordinary be impossible. Such circumstances could range from suddenly being robbed of your mobility to losing sight of your opponent and being fed morbid hallucinations, like being maimed or dismembered.

There are three ways to break out of Genjutsu. The first way is by inducing pain which (according to the Special Bio & Ability Rules) alternates the balance between one's spiritual and physical energies and causes a spike in the flow of your chakra that will dispel the illusion cast. The second way is by forcefully creating a surge of chakra within yourself that will disturb your chakra flow, alternate the balance of your physical and spiritual energies, and dispel the illusion. The third way is to rely on a third party or foreign source of chakra to disturb your chakra flow and dispel the Genjutsu (e.g. Activating a Curse Mark and letting the additional chakra flow into your body, like my Kimimaro bio).

And that's all that comes to mind right now.

"Very good, you covered most of the aspects. I tend to usually cover everything step by step, but it seems with you that I'll just give the specifics on what you've covered. Now, Genjutsu is as you described, works through chakra to disrupt the opponent's chakra flow, and thus cause "illusions". There are three types of illusions, those that are done through chakra, Doujutsu related ones and Sound based ones. We'll be covering the first. Genjutsu is usually induced via triggers, which include Light, Hand seals, Sound, Eye Sight etc. Something to keep in mind, is that chakra flow is normally in perfect balance, of spiritual and physical energy.

Figuring out if its an illusion is done in one of two ways. One, make an educated guess based on the evidence presented to you at the point of induction. This requires some knowledge, and of course, common sense. So if you suddenly see butterflies, or flying fish, then you know. However, there are some Genjutsu that are so subtle, that it'd be nigh impossible to be able to deduce that its a Genjutsu. Sometimes though a good guess can help a lot.

Now, onto breaking Genjutsu. They are done through one, of either three ways. First, Pain. Pain is physical energy, and disrupting it, you can cause the chakra flow to reset, and go back to its normal flow. Pain is so realistic, that it would break any illusion (depending on rank, the pain would have to be more). If a Genjutsu simulates pain, it would never be as realistic, as real pain, to put it into context. Anyway, here is a small guide as to how much pain is needed to break a Genjutsu, depending on rank.

D Rank Genjutsu: Chipping a Finger (like one does as he bites to draw blood for a Summoning Jutsu)
C Rank Genjutsu: Low level Physical Attacks, Bitting a chunk of your Cheek
B Rank Genjutsu: Low ranked Taijutsu/Freestyle
A Rank Genjutsu: High ranked Taijutsu, Stabbing Yourself in minor muscle, Cutting yourself, Breaking Smaller bones, Low level Burning/Voltage, Painful Cold
S Rank Genjutsu: EIG/Sage level Taijutsu, Breaking Bones, Deep Stabs or cuts, Medium Voltage/Burning, Extreme Painful Cold, Bitting your tongue off
After pain, we get Surge techniques or pure will or force. Surge techniques fall under spiritual energy, and by disrupting it, you break the illusion and cause the chakra flow to become normal again. This is accomplished through techniques which release a large amount of chakra through most or all of your Tenketsu. These are techniques like the Kai technique, or simply any elemental technique that does as I said above. A good example would Chidori Nagashi, or Earth Hardening technique. A surge technique, when elemental, can break a Genjutsu one rank below it. So A rank Chidori can break Genjutsu B rank and below. So an S rank surge technique can break A rank Genjutsu and below etc. This makes it quite difficult to break S rank Genjutsu, since you'd need a Forbidden ranked surge technique. Anyway, EIG also acts a surge.

Lastly, introduction of a foreign chakra into your system. Foreign chakra can be anything from activating a Curse Mark, entering Sage Mode, Chakra Transfer technique with a partner, or being a Jinchuuriki and your Bijuu helps you. I can't be put into a Genjutsu because of this very fact, foreign chakra can't enter my body, so anyone else's chakra, is foreign chakra, Nekura perks.

Those are ways to break Genjutsu. Lastly, we got Layering Genjutsu, where you will layer two non-conflicting Genjutsu onto each other, to deepen a Genjutsu or make it harder to break. Now, in order for it to work, a higher ranking Genjutsu has to be cast first, then a lower ranking one. If a lower ranking one is cast first, and then a higher ranking one, it would flush out the chakra and leave the higher ranking one. Releasing a layered Genjutsu is simple, and works like a normal way (as described above). Though the higher ranking has to be broken, in order to break both, and a Layered Genjutsu, takes the rak of the higher ranking one. That's pretty much it."

Dean says, as he takes a deep breath. Genjutsu tended to be complex, yet he loved it so much.

"Anything else you want to know?"

I've got a good grasp on everything, but I do have one question: what is the name of this S-Ranked Earth technique that you speak of? Is it the Hardening Technique, the Super Added-Weight Rock Technique, or...?

"That'd be the (Doton: Koka no Jutsu) - Earth Release: Hardening Technique. What I like about it, is that it acts as a defense, and a method of breaking Genjutsu at the same time. Alright, so are you ready to continue?"

Dean asked with an eager tone in his voice.

"Alright, now, my method is simple. I will explain the technique to you, then I want you to perform it for me, against my clone. You will then give me at least 2 advantages and disadvantages of the technique, and also, how you would use it in battle. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Now, the first technique is simple where you will cast an illusion on the opponent without the need for hand seals. This allows you to change the way the opponent sees the terrain, and only the terrain. This means you can add some extra trees, fake boulders, pillars etc. Or, you could make it a bit more flamboyant, and change the entire terrain from a forest, to a desert for example. This technique has several uses, some that even I haven't discovered yet. Use it against my clone."

Dean creates a clone that runs towards his student (using Kimimaro or Itachi btw?)

Always Kimimaro. I plan to drop Itachi soon after finishing the basics. Also sorry if my reply is too long >_>

------------

*After receiving my instructions, I memorize the positions of myself and your clone relative to our surroundings, then I close my eyes and begin to mold chakra. I use my imagination to bring your clone and myself to a new terrain. In this terrain, your clone and I are standing atop large monoliths. The monolith I am standing on top of is made of steel, while the one your clone is standing on top of is made of earth. The monoliths extend high out of a lake that surrounds us as far as the eye can see. The lake is comprised of some dark, acidic fluid that gives off a putrid smell, reaching us even atop the monoliths. The liquid that comprises the lake moves like the restless ocean, waves constantly crashing up against the sides of the monoliths from below. Because of the highly acidic nature of the lake, the monolith that your clone is standing is standing on is constantly being eroded away, breaking down under his very feet; meanwhile, because the monolith that I am standing on top of is made of steel, it is very resistant to the acid. Because of the way the earth is literally crumbling away beneath his feet, your clone will not be able to get a good footing and will eventually fall down into the acid. Additionally, unable to get a good footing, he will be unable to accurately target me for any attacks (similar to how the "Earth Release: World Shaking" technique works). In my imagination, your clone falls and plummets into the acid where his body is corroded to the point that nothing remains of him. After visualizing your clones untimely downfall and having now molded enough chakra, I open my eyes look towards your clone. I know that chakra has the ability to carry information from one person to another (e.g. Medical Ninja Diagnose patients by probing the body with their own chakra and having that chakra passively inform them of any problems they need to be made aware of. When a clone dissipates, all of its acquired knowledge returns to the original, etc). The illusion that I created within my mind is embedded within my chakra so that when I focus on your clone and send that chakra into him, it disturbs his chakra flow and forces that very same illusion onto him.*

Advantages: This technique grants the user a lot of freedom in how they choose to use it. One could change the terrain entirely -- like I did -- or use it more subtly and only change one aspect of the surroundings. The user can thereafter exploit any misunderstandings or misinterpretations an opponents might have about their surroundings. For example, in my scenario, regardless of whether or not they realize they are trapped in an illusion, they should feel seriously unbalanced and would be unable to accurately aim in addition to being assaulted by the foul smell of the lake beneath them).

Disadvantages: Like some of the previous taijutsu techniques (i.e. Drunken Fist, Flying Swallow, etc) this technique is limited to the users own creativity in that it can be applied more effectively by some people than others. Additionally, the user can only change elements of their environment with this technique. One cannot use it to change the appearance of an item or weapon (I originally had an idea to use this technique to disguise the appearance of a particular item, but now I see it can't be used that way).

OOC: Whilst I like the way you described it, that would be far beyond of what the D rank Genjutsu is capable of. Its able to change the terrain, but the opponent would still feel the normal terrain beneath (usually the way the Genjutsu is broken). Say for example, the monoliths are created, fine. The opponent could easily deduce that its an illusion as he didn't feel the monolith rise from the ground, no vibrations, very sudden etc etc. Normally like I said before, this technique is just used to create a diversion. Lili once used it to mask her movements by basically creating the same terrain, but by taking herself out of it, as if she had disappeared, and moved "behind" the veil of the illusion. A swamp can be created beneath the opponent, but he could still notice that he isn't sinking, or a wall can be created, which is always cool, since you can use it to mask your movements, or actions. Unfortunately, the technique doesn't allow much realism to come with the terrain change, hence its rank. So to put it more bluntly, whist very creative, your way of using it would be outside the scope of the technique, unfortunately.

Care to try again?

I guess I overdid it. Also, thanks for the hints on how to see through and break this illusion :sdo:

*I repeat my previous process of memorizing the positions of your clone and myself relative to our surroundings before once again molding my chakra and closing my eyes in concentration. This time I visualize an earthen wall suddenly created in between the two of us. In my imagination, the earthen wall obscures my vision of your clone while also obscuring his vision of me. The wall is both long and tall, extending out to mid-range on the sides as well as into the air. Just as I did before, once I finish molding a sufficient amount of chakra, I thrust this illusion unto your clone. Within the illusion, your clone takes my place in that he cannot see me on the other side of the imaginary wall, meanwhile I can see him perfectly fine since the wall doesn't actually exist.*

How was that?

"Much better, and that's pretty much it about the technique. Its simple, but it has some great uses. Here you go."

Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 10 (+5 if you use it double)
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user casts an illusion over an area that allows him to manipulate the way an area looks to fool an opponent. He can only change the way the terrain looks, and not any other feature.

"Now for the next technique, which is a bit more straightforward. You will start off by forming five hand seals, and inducing an illusion on the opponent. The opponent would then see you dissolve into a large amount of cherry blossoms. These cherry blossoms surround the opponent, and obscures their vision. This all happens in the illusion, and allows you to attack the opponent in reality, as they would be distracted, and their vision, obscured. You know what to do."

Dean says, as he creates a clone that runs towards Kimimaro.

Aye, sir

*I start by practicing and memorizing the necessary handseals before molding chakra and closing my eyes in concentration. Wit my eyes closed, I imagine a scene where I disappear from your clones sight in a flurry of cherry blossom petals that fly away and swarm around your clone. The petals move around your clone in such a way that they would obscure his vision in all directions. It's a relatively simple illusion so I don't hesitate -- I open my eyes when I feel that I've molded enough chakra, then perform the required sequence of handseals, 'embedding the illusion in my chakra' and sending my chakra into your clone. The look of confusion on your clone's face afterward is enough to tell me that the illusion was cast successfully -- from his point of view, I will have disappeared and cherry blossom petals would likely be obscuring his vision right now. Taking advantage of this moment when he cannot see me, I run up to him and perform a Dynamic Entry, kicking him right in the face and causing him to dissipate.*

Advantages: This technique gives the user the opportunity to move with impunity in the brief moment that the opponent's vision is obscured. This technique also might work well with techniques that take on a similar appearance to sakura petals (Wind Release: Flower Scattering Dance) and might make the illusion a bit more realistic.

Disadvantages: Requires handseals, though that's not necessarily a big disadvantage. However, it might be easy to tell that you're under an illusion since you probably won't feel any wind (normally, wind would be necessary to blow the sakura petals away in any which direction).

"Good job, here you go."

Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user makes five handseals, appearing to dissolve into a shower of cherry blossom petals. These petals surround the opponent, blocking his vision. This allows the user to mask his movement effectively.

"Now, the next technique requires the use of a paper bomb. Through the formation of a single hand seal, you will induce an illusion on the opponent. After doing so, you will throw a single paper bomb towards the opponent, but the opponent will see it as a clone of you running towards them, and not a paper bomb. The paper bomb would then explode upon reaching the opponent, meaning its a technique that's best used when the opponent's vision is obscured or when you are hidden. This way, they might think that its really a clone. Use it against my clone."

Dean says, as he creates a clone that runs towards Kimimaro.

*I start by memorizing the necessary handseal before molding chakra and closing my eyes in concentration. In my mind, I imagine a situation where I throw a paper-bomb towards your clone running towards me. After releasing the paper-bomb, it magically takes on the appearance of a clone that runs towards your clone. The transformation is like the reverse of the transformation technique (where a person can take on the appearance of a weapon or jutsu). Thinking that my clone is actually running towards him, your clone tries to intercept my clone with Taijutsu only to have the paper-bomb explode in his face and cause him to dissipate. I open my eyes upon molding enough chakra; as your clone enters short range of me, I perform the required handseal and toss a singe paper bomb towards him. Because of the way I embedded my chakra with the illusion then channeled my chakra into him, the illusion takes effect and instead of the paper-bomb, he sees a clone of mine running directly toward him. Just like in my visualization, the paper-bomb explodes in your clones face, causing him to dissipate.*

Advantages: The fact that this technique can only be used in short range might be considered an advantage. Since it can only be used in close quarters, it gives the opponent much less time to react the paper bomb coming towards them. The one handseal might also make it seem more realistic, as if you actually did create a clone.

Disadvantages: The imaginary clone coming towards the enemy won't deter them from trying to defend against the incoming paper-bomb (even if they are unaware of the paper-bomb's existence). For example, if you cast that Genjutsu on me and I thought your clone was running towards me, I could release a gust of powerful wind that would send the imaginary clone flying away -- in reality, the paper-bomb would be sent flying away from me and I would figure out it was a Genjutsu when your clone is unaffected by the wind.

"Good job, it seems you are incorporating the "how you would use it in battle" in your advantages and disadvantages. Nonetheless, here you go."

Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: 20
Description: The user does one handseal and throws a paper bomb at the enemy. The enemy, trapped in a genjutsu will see a clone of the user advancing upon him. As the paper bomb reaches the enemy, it explodes

"Now for the next technique. Without the need for hand seals, you will induce an illusion on the opponent, and cause them to see numerous clones of you, emerge from the trees, ground, walls etc. Depending on the terrain, of course. These clones aren't capable of inflicting any damage, but when they are hit, they multiply, making them difficult to fend off. However, their real use lies in combining this technique with the Shadow Clone one, and creating real clones to blend with the illusionary ones. This would of course, be near useless against a Doujutsu or sensor, but others, this technique could easily fool them. Use it against my unsuspecting clone."

Indeed o-o

*As your clone runs towards me, I quickly begin molding chakra and close my eyes in concentration. After closing my eyes, I visualize a scenario that almost mirrors our current reality (from the environmental conditions, to the situation of your clone running toward me, etc) except that multiple copies of myself rise from the ground. Me and all of my clones then move and dash towards/around your incoming clone in such a way so as to confuse and disorient him, preventing him from seeing through which of us is the real one. Several of my clones will also rush to attack him, but will intentionally avoid making physical contact. After molding enough chakra, I open my eyes and channel my chakra into your clone in such a way that your clone is afflicted with the same illusion that I just visualized. Before he can reach the real me, several illusory clones of mine rise from the ground, then move and attack him in the aforementioned fashion. Two of my clones dash to attack your clone one after another, though they stop their attacks and pull back just before making physical contact (kind of like a feint). That's when I come in -- I wield a kunai in my right hand and run in as the third person. Unlike my illusory clones, I follow through with my attack and stab your clone in the heart by taking advantage of the openings presented by his previous reactions to my clones movements. Your clone dissipates.*

Advantages: Similar to what I did, you could synchronize your movements with your copies in such a way that it becomes hard for your opponent to perceive which of you is the real one; in this way, you can attack with impunity. Furthermore, when the opponent attacks one of the copies, they will multiply and confuse that person further.

Disadvantage: Because the clones multiply when they are hit instead of dissipating, it should make it easier for the opponent to perceive that something is amiss and that they might be under the influence of a Genjutsu. Additionally, the copies won't have any physical substance and would likely phase through the opponent if they made physical contact, further reinforcing the idea that they may be under the influence of a Genjutsu. Then, instead of struggling to find the real person among all the fakes, the opponent could just break themselves out of the Genjutsu and the charade would end there.

"Now, for the last D rank technique. Form two hand seals, and induce an illusion on the opponent. To them, it would appear as if a swirl of leaves has surrounded them, and obscured their vision. Shortly after, the leaves would fall away, and cause the opponent to see an image of what they fear most. If successful, it can even cause the opponent to faint. A nice technique, but easily gives itself away. Use it against my clone."

*As I did previously, I begin molding chakra while closing my eyes in concentration. My imagination is certainly critical for properly performing these techniques. In my mind, I imagine your clone and I standing in an identical environment, with me remaining stationary and your clone still running at me. In my visualization, a flurry of leaves appear out of thin air and swirl around your clone, completely obscuring his vision and stopping him in his tracks while he wonders what's going on. Then suddenly, the leaves clear away and in front of him, instead of me, there stands a visage of his greatest fear (a cat or the inside of a plane, I haven't gotten around to watching Supernatural yet, so idk what Dean is afraid of). Upon seeing it, your clone is frozen in his tracks. At that point I open my eyes after having molded enough chakra and perform the required handseals. I proceed to release and channel my chakra into the clone who is running towards me, casting the created illusion unto him just as I have done to your previous clones. Once the Genjutsu takes effect, the leaves will begin swirling around him and he will likely stop in his tracks to discern what is happening. Next, his greatest fear will appear before him (observable from screaming, shaking, sweating, etc). At this point, while he is distracted by the illusion, I toss an ordinary kunai that hits your clone dead in between his eyes and kills him. He dissipates immediately afterward.*

Advantages: You can take advantage of the moment where the opponent can't see you (because of the way the leaves obscure their vision and you disappear afterward) to attack them freely. Additionally, the user will also be able to take advantage of the opponents hesitation upon seeing what it is they fear most.

Disadvantages: I imagine it's not all that difficult to see through this technique as an image of what what you fear most magically appears in front of you in the midst of battle. I believe the absence of wind is another thing that can be used to deduce that one is under the influence of a Genjutsu. If this technique was used against me, even if I didn't suspect a Genjutsu, I would still inflict pain to myself to prevent myself from freezing up/passing out, similar to what Sasuke did when faced with the Killing Intent technique -- the fear in itself is a reason to break out of this technique, albeit inadvertently.

"Great job, Kimimaro (and LOOOOL @ cats and planes). Here you go."

Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user performs two handseals causing it to appear as if a swirl of leaves surrounds the opponent. The swirl eventually falls away, and after a few seconds, the opponent sees the image of whatever they fear the most, shocking them and potentially causing them to faint.

"Now, remember we spoke about the Kai technique? It's up next. I want you to analyze it for me. When are the conditions right to use it, and when not, for example. There are certain things that hinder it from being used, what are those things? Anything else that comes to mind about the technique. Read through it carefully."

Dean throws a scroll towards Kimimaro.

Rank: C-S
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 15-40
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user does one hand seal to focus and then proceeds to disturb his chakra flow by forcefully stopping it momentarily and then "spiking" his spiritual energy, unbalancing his chakra. This dispels any genjutsu set upon the user except MS Eye Techniques, Paralysis-like Genjutsu and Demonic Illusion: Toad Confrontation Chant. The effectiveness of this technique is dependent upon the skill of the user. A Jounin rank ninja can dispel Genjutsu up to C-rank. An S-class ninja can dispel Genjutsu up to B-rank. A Sannin rank ninja can dispel Genjutsu up to A-rank. A Sage rank user can dispel Genjutsu up to S-Rank. The user may use this technique through physical contact on others to dispel them from Genjutsu. The technique can only be used once per turn and the user still needs to fully follow the logic as to why he figured out it was an illusion.
