In my opinion, this could be a great way to help babies that would be born with serious, maybe even lethal genetic diseases that would basically screw their life from the beginning. But then again, this planet already has a massive problem with human overpopulation and such technology would definitely get abused by the government and military at some point.

So I'd say, no, such technology shouldn't exist.

genetically engineering a baby would be expensive initially so a totalitarian world government wouldn't be spending money to make the general population more compliant. they would more likely modify their own 'children' so that their kids would be physically and mentally superior. think more like elysium where a select few own machines to cure disease and the rest of the world just works to literal death.

Ciao, the authorities pump trillions into distractive media outlets that are purposely altering our opinion structures To suit their agenda's. They already go Through extreme lengths To condition us, what makes You think they wouldn't take the chance To alter our genes To make us more compliant chattle. What makes You think money is a problem.. When they own almost all currencies on earth.

No, leave life to develop on it's own, This might be a short cut but is can be and will be massively abused, especially by those with money and power.

Regardless of the benefits i think it would do far more harm in the long run than it will do good.

Mother Nature doesn't like it when you tamper with her work. At some point she will retaliate and you won't like what she will hit you with. Eventually, everything will go back to what she intended. I don't know but messing with DNA sounds a lot more complicated than programming source code, and we all know when you fix one thing in a program 20 more are created.

I think I would be okay with it at a first glance If it was handled properly but I don't see how it can be.I think it can be exploited in many ways which makes me say that it should be illegal and shut down at all times.

However I do think that these experiments have been and are currently being conducted by many scientists and governments around the world.I think the leakage of this into our society is inevitable in the near future.

Also we should consider the thousands of "errors" that would be made and born if it was done at a large quantity. We would be supporting suffering.

I think enchantments and custom made organs would be a more moral option than creating life in that way.

Believe it or not. We don't.
With genetic modification, we can alter genes to be more capable of survival so we don't need diversity that much if we can make ourselves immune to stuff anyway.

If gene altering was left to average people to decide to a certain extent they'll care for health of baby but greater importance would be put on giving them features they find advantageous. And I think in general in life people don't make the right decision instead of worrying about giving your child immunities to be a stronger human, it be creating a human they could exploit with some greed of theirs. I also think this would negatively impact diversity if left in our hands. It's in the nature of people to strive to be the same not different.

I can see only privileged ( ones with more money and resources ) get the opportunity to do so and others just get left with nothing and no one can guarantee if it's gonna be used for benefit of everyone or destruction .

Only use it to take out diseases and other serious problems. Nothing else imo.

So some of you plebs want to make your kids prone to diseases and dumb. Will you cry it is unfair when your kid turns a sore loser or dies of some disease that was preventable?

such is life. The true winners are the ones who know how to play the hand their delt. Instead of b!tching and moaning for a better hand.

cool quote
Except here the cards are not dealt randomly. You had an option to deal favorable combinations to your next generation, predicting and preventing where they might make an error in future but instead you did not choose that and threw away the chance. Now the game is on whole new level where they cannot compete and go extinct.

I agree.

I think where people get tripped up is the idea that genetic modification will eventually lead to a monolithic genepool where everyone is the same, and if some virus comes along, the entire human race will be susceptible to infection and death. The modifications will only be an add on to the current DNA structure, meaning the diversity is still there, it's just an certain gene thats changed or an extra gene is added on.

What do you think of genetically modifying babies? Some people say it's the next step in human evolution, while other people say it's tampering with nature, and as humans shouldn't be allowed that amount of power over the face of humanity. Do you think we should be allowed to genetically modify babies as we please, or should it be illegal?

Pros
  • Immunity to Disease
  • Immunity to Virus/Bacteria
  • Enhanced Physical Strength
  • Enhanced Intelligence
  • Customized Aesthetic Features (gender, eye/hair color, height, etc.)
  • Extended Life Span (potential immorality)
  • Modified Humans for space travel, under water exploration

Cons
  • Genetic Errors
  • Extinction of Certain Races/Physical Features
  • Extinction of Unmodified Humans
  • Military use of Genetically Modified Super Soldiers

If given the option, would you genetically modify your baby in the distant future?

I am strongly against it .

Genetically modified smh

Humanity would be divided if it isn't already not to mention the huge potential it has in the military complex, add on it cloning and there you go recipe for the extinction of humanity.
No thanks there is a red line that should NEVER be crossed.

Nah this is a really bad idea. If something like that came into existence I'm telling you the world would turn to shit.
