Well the thing with Gaara I would assume is that since he no longer has the One tails inside him he no longer has to keep the One tails chakra in check. Same thing for sasuke with Orochimaru inside him, he was holding Orochimaru in check with his chakra which is why he got out when sasuke was low on chakra.
So since Gaara no longer has to hold Back the one tails he has much more Chakra he can use and no strain on his body. These are just assumptions but they make plenty of sense.
