Could it be that Garp wanted to be a pirate when he was a child? Look at him at his young age:

We see him carrying a large treasure chest, so is it possible that he wanted to be a pirate when he was kid? What do you think?

+ Kid Garp looks like a mix of Luffy, Ace and Sabo.

To be honest I think Garp is the type of person who would be in the marines just because it was fun to fight with strong people such as pirates.

I dont really know but he always seemed to hate on pirates and always acted like a proud marine so he may wante to be a pirate but I think that changed during his lifetime, some kind of event in life or something.

I'm pretty sure that's just of Garp living in the same place ASL grew up in, hence the pipe, clothing and tiger. It makes sense that Garp lived in that place as a kid as well. He could have just lived with bandits, same as Luffy, in that area, hence why he's got a treasure chest: He's stealing money cuz he's a bandit.

My views on this topic are same as this one^^^^. And may be he beat the living hell out of some pirates ass and got that treasure from them.
