Looks
Gajeel is a tall and muscular man with long, spiky black hair, which is usually kept slicked back, revealing his forehead, red eyes with slitted dark pupils, and no visible eyebrows. Most of his exposed body is covered in sets of simple, round studs. The most visible studs are on his face, with three of them right above his eyes (acting as "eyebrows" of a sort), three on each side of his nose, and two on his chin, just below his mouth. His ears are adorned by two sets of five earrings each. He also sports four studs on each of his forearms, with his right one being covered in scars. Gajeel's usual outfit consists of a shabby, black, sleeveless tunic with studded edges, with a studded belt around his waist, loose whitish pants tucked inside studded black boots, and a pair of studded brown gloves paired with similarly studded wristbands. He also sports a distinctive wing-like ornament, seemingly made of feathers jutting upwards, over his right shoulder, attached to his tunic by a large stud.

Personality
Gajeel is has a short temper, seen when he and his friend Natsu bicker constantly over childish things. Like Natsu, Gajeel lives for the thrill of combat. Despite saying that he doesn't want to make friends, he tries in his own way to do so. However, he is completely and genuinely dedicated to which ever ninja he is affiliated with. Despite his cold personality, he has shown a humorous side of himself

History
Not much is known of Gajeel. No one really knows who his parents are or where he was born. He was born in Iwagakure, and is able to use steel release but no one taught him. He claims that a Dragon taught him to use steel jutsu by the name of Metalicana. But, as so few have seen dragons in the ninja world, no one seems to believe him. By the age of 10 he left Iwagakure as he was always getting abused being called a liar and told that dragons don’t exist. He began to travel the world learning new skills.
Having mastered fire and earth before he left the village, Gajeel was able to work on his skills with his steel release developing his own fighting style. In doing so in increased his toughness and physical strength greatly. After leaving the village, he had nowhere to go and so he spend nearly 3 years living in a cave, taking care of himself. After living in the cave for 3 years, he would venture out of the mountains in search of Metalicana, hoping to find his “father” again soon. On his travels his met a few ninja who would them teach him the ninja ways of the basic elements and nin, gen and taijutsu.
All the time he would train, mastering steel release to the extent that he could perform even the hardest techniques with just one handseal, promising that one day, he would show Metalicana and make him proud.
After much travelling he found himself at the gates of Konoha where there Hokage, Nathan, invited him to join them. It was weird for Gajeel having lived alone for so long but he found a way to pass the time, by training and aquiring rivals. First of all was the Salamander, Blackcrow. These two would constantly fight trying to prove who was the best dragon slayer. To this day they can't see each other without fighting. But it seemed to be more of a friendship thing, than a blood lust fight.
In between Gajeel would train with other people, Beifong would go on to teach him how to hone his skills in steel, Korra, started to show him the way of the snake as they were decendents of the dragons. Nathan saw the true potential of Gajeel, bestowed upon him what we know as a curse mark but what Gajeel believed to be the power of the dragons, Dragon force. To keep an eye on him Nathan would also teach him the way of the sword slowly helping to master a new set of skills.
It was in the village that an Arrogant ninja named Laxus lived, the lightning specilist that would keep starting fights with Gajeel as his steel kept getting shocked by lightning. He decided to master lightning himself so that the paralysis wouldn't work on him so he would be more resistant and be able to beat the crap out of Laxus. Along with his lightning Gajeel honed his skills with wind so that his punches would create a more distructive power along with his steel release.
Gajeels life wasn't all about training though. He met many friends along the way, Krypticc, Anbu Junior, Flash, Yanks, Ooran, Nathan, Korra, Ali, Zanji, Orochimaru and many more... such as Ian xd

Raiton Mastery
Gajeel has a natural affinity for Raiton element. He has rained highly in lightning element and is able to use all of lightning jutsu with a single hand seal.
Fuuton Mastery
Gajeel has trained highly in Fuuton Element. Through years of hard and extensive training he has achieved such high level mastery in wind element that it has become his Second Affinity and he can perform all wind techniques with faster hand seals.
Taijutsu Specialist
Gajeel is a taijutsu specialist. With his strong and flexible body, he is able to perform taijutsu techniques quite efficiently and quickly, with more destructive power. He was well known to turn his body to steel to enhance his taijutsu.
