A lot of people are saying Kishi is exploring the idea about how blood isn't necessary in family ect, or however you want to put it, in Gaiden. And it's definitely true that that comes up. But don't you think that's too simple? Kishi is now very experienced, and can expertly do a miniseries following his 700 chapter manga. And Naruto manga has already beautifully explored the idea of bonds in depth.
There's Neji, Hinata, and the Hyuga clan. Naruto making bonds with zero family. Sasuke hating Itachi, Itachi loving Sasuke. I could go on all day.
The discussion about genetics was developing Shin's character. Otherwise it has been part of Sarada's character. Generally the characters explore the themes, but here it seems the theme happens to be developing the characters, making it less relevant. This genetic and biological stuff comes under Naruto's thoroughly explored bonds.
So is Kishi hinting at something else? I reckon we'll be able to put all the pieces together at the end, once we have the final villain revealed, developed, and (probably) defeated.
