For some reason I haven't been able to view images here in awhile, but if this is true then rip Boruto anime xD I was hoping that they would wait for another year or two to animate Gaiden/the manga because right now they have absolute freedom to come up with whatever they want (from a story perspective) and still make it work in context of the setting/story as the anime is set in a time-period that hasn't been covered yet. Jumping the shark and moving into the canon territory means that they will catch up VERY quickly and have to be stuck in a never-ending rut of being forced into coming up with half-assed filler arcs that will stretch on for FAR longer than they ever did in Shippuden since the Boruto manga is monthly.

Gaiden happens before the academy graduation/Boruto movie. I mean, do you really think they would've extended the academy arc for that long? I see no point in it tbh.

That's what I said lol. Gaiden opens with the academy graduation, which transitions quickly to the events of the Boruto movie/manga. That doesn't leave nearly as much wiggle room for the anime as they currently do now. They could realistically create 1 new arc between Gaiden and the movie, and MAYBE 1 new arc between the movie and the manga but all in all those won't last long. However if they remain in the current timeline they can easily create another 2-3 arcs before moving onto Gaiden—keep in mind the average time spent in the academy is roughly 4 years, so to just skip over that much time knowing that the manga releases monthly (thus leading to true filler arcs) would just be a waste of that timeskip.
