That's all Gai has a counter for? Genjutsu is what most users reply on when dealing with Itachi

He developed the fighting style of not looking into eyes while fighting:

But restrict ama and spiritual weapons; then it is a fair fight imo. It is doubtful whether Gai destroyed Madara's susanoo or not; but mokuton lost its grip after he got hit by Hirudora:

So it was somewhat effective on the susanoo user too.

Kisame pushed Gai to 7th gates with no Samadaha.

I find it really hard for Gai to win, unless 8th gates can make a difference to Susanoo.

I don't think it is effective against someone of Gai's caliber.

Gai is high-jounin caliber.. pretty sure its still effective (though the gates break it).

gai is high caliber ninja which means that his resistance against it is much higher than most ninjas. remember that that he also trained against kakashi because of his genjutsu prowess.

I also believe that he has to be looking at the appendage in order to be caught, though gai will usually be looking at his opponents feet so that right there makes that point moot in the first place

what power does he have to make a stubborn and well seasoned veteran like gai to look at itachi if his life depended on it? its highly unlikely
