I think this fight sequence will be very similar to the Gaara vs. Lee fight, but in a larger power scale. Kazekage Gaara has much improved since then, as Might Gai is far ahead of Rock Lee.

Will Gaara be able to tank Hirudora? Let me know who you think will win.

He broke through the armor with the fifth gate, but then his sand cushioned him from the ground. Guy could easily do the same and kill him before he even touches the ground.

Gai has an island wide taijutsu the unique called Hirudora. :|

He is also much faster than lee naturally and can open more gates than he can.

Hirudora its Gai's last resort and it leaves him rather useless.
It all depends on wether Garaas sand mother protection can resist it or not.

Well, Gai can use his speed to bypass the defense and the hit him. He is way faster than lee with the gates and can hold off the effects for quite a while considering he only felt the effects after Kisame committed suicide.

You are right my friend.. I forgotten he did have enough energy to give another punch to Kisame.
well I always thought rock lee was a good counter for gaara.. A lot more fire power would give him the win..
So yeah I guess Gai > Gaara

Gai wins but I'm sure Genii will enter this thread and make an argument for Gaara. Gaara was able to beat Lee because Lee lacked the stamina to finish Gaara off. Gai doesn't have this problem and can casually attack Gaara whose sand won't be able to keep up. Gai doesn't have to use up all of his gates at once so thinking that he will lose his stamina quickly is wrong. Even in base, I'm quite sure Gai can bypass Gaara's sand defence but if he doesn't using the speed granted by the gates will certainly allow him to do so.

He would have to do that before gai catches him. 20 yards ~ 20 meters. That is pretty close.

So far this seems to be a stomp thread, so i changed the location to the desert to further Gaaras power, and granting him an unlimited amount of sand.

Now, how will Gai's speed stack up against a series of gigantic sand waves of even larger scale then this

Gaara can fly in the air and then just do the sand tsunami and sink the entire battlefield 200m under sand.

This is similar to what i was going for, but it will most likely be countered to Gai blitzing Gaara and not giving him a chance to go airborne. However, changing the location to the desert makes it a lot more possible for Gaara to accomplish this.

Lee and Gai are on two COMPLETELY different power scales, lee in gates managed to keep up with gaara and that was WAAAAAY back... just imagin what guys strength and speed would do to gaara in 4+gates
