[Discussion] Gai might not die after using 8-gates.

Naruto's whole speech to Obito about "Not going to let my comrades die anymore in this war" pretty much voids out any more death at the hands of the villains. Neji's death was enough to drive the point home to fans that this is an actual war and not all "main" characters are excluded to the sacrifice. Neji was pretty damn important considering that was one of the first people Naruto "saved" aside from Zabuza with his TNJ and it definitely changed the way the Hyuuga view the branches. That said..

He didn't say "anymore death by my friends running themselves into the ground while trying to cover my absence". Gai(or Guy if you are so inclined) will be essentially killing himself to stall Madara. I know he's thick headed, but in his current state The Gate of Death will not be as strong as it would be if he was at full thus he is not going in with the intention of soloing Madara. The chances of him dying are in the 90 % range.

My opinion as far as actual character usefulness driven by plot alone. Gai was there to make Lee into a decent shinobi, to give him the personality he needed to succeed. He did that. He was also there as the leader of his Squad (Sensei) to supporting main characters. He was there as Kakashi's childhood rival as well. Where am I going with this? Lee is already close to surpassing him, the squad is pretty much gone without Neji (in my opinion, so was team 7 when Sasuke left). Gai has taught them pretty much all he can. He saved Kakashi in his almost coma state, ready to use the death sentence jutsu to save the others from anymore damage.. He'd be dying, as I stated above, by his own hands. That would make the most honorable death for a character in this Arc.

Final numbers? 9/10 going to die. 1% left for asspull. Sorry for the long post, just looking at it from the two spectrum's that I have seen since last week!

Even I'm inclined to gai's death. But this is also a possibility. We cannot strike it out yet.

nope...the manga clearly states opening the 8th gate gives u more power than the hokage's but te price is your life , nothing suggests it can be helped...also u forget the purpose of the gates which is to open the chakra gates/limitors to give the user all their chakra at once , opening the 8th gate gives u all your entire chakra at once and which means u will die when the limit has been reached, also the chakra used for the gates cannot be switched with the chakra cloak u assume gai will get from naruto, the gates are releasing your chakra not someone else's, gai's death cannot be helped, opening the 8th gate gives u all your chakra at once which assures u when its over u will dies because u have no chakra, no matter if naruto gives him a chakra cloak prior to or before gai fights madara because prior to the fight wouldnt matter...

because if gai gets the cloak and still uses the gates he's using his chakra for the gates and not the cloak and if he does get the cloak when the fight is over once he's dead wouldnt matter either because the kyuubi's chakra is nice and all but cannot bring the dead back to life...u have minimum understanding of how the gates work, but the only thing i can agree with is kishi makes the decisions...

Well, chapter 666 clearly stated that Gai uses forbidden technique next time? (please don't ask for the proof now )
The only forbidden technique for Gai is the 8th Gate, the Gate of Death. The title speaks itself that the technique might kill the user after giving a full speed and power boost to the user's body. And that's is the reason why the person might die after exhaustion.
If Gai uses the 8th gate in his current exhausted state (he forced himself to save Kakashi) he will surely die. But there might be a chance that Naruto along with Obito and Sakura arrives on the battlefield and gives a Kyuubi chakra boost to Gai at first to save him. And I'm considering that Naruto's new Yin Kurama mode might be different than his Yang Kurama mode was as well as Minato's Yin Kurama mode because Naruto's Yin-KM might get affected because of his previous Yang-KM along with the Bijuus' chakra.

So, if Gai gets a chakra boost, He can be saved.

Even though I like Gai, the series is probably about to have some more drama with a few more major characters dying (Gai being among them I think). It is time for Lee to surpass Gai.

I agree gai can be saved. I mean kishi is currently re-writing the rules he set. Such as a jinchuriki dieing from extraction of a bijuu. And a jinchuriki dieing if a bijuu is sealed back inside him or her after an extraction. Now those rules are ignored especially the second one. seeing this it is very possible for guy to be saved

Well Kurama and Kushina weren't exactly friends and Kurama most likely wouldn't have tried to save her but naruto and kurama are friends and Kurama doesn't want to kill him. So it might not be a plot hole

kishimoto is screwing up the laws of forbidden taijustsu... since classical naruto that we heard/read that unlocking the 8th gate kills the oponent... not because of exaustion but because of imense power up that builds inside... such power cannot be controled and the body starts to get bugged just like what happened to lee vs gaara...lees' muscles were getting stuck... and its not by chance that the 8th gate "gate of death" is located in the heart... the one who unleashes its power dies...

I would count on a 100% asspull...just sayin. The way things have been going it seems about right.

Plus, since it creates a red aura(the eighth gate) it probably boils the users blood, which would obviously kill the user no matter what. The seventh gate creates a green/blue aura because it evaporates the users sweat, the eighth gate creates a red aura because it probably evaporates the users blood.
