You know..Obito could always have just went intagible until Gai Died. And since there is the fact that he can only go intangible for 10 minutes at most..he can always uses izanagi ...until gai passed away. And he would still have a spare eye. No harm done.

This is because he couldve ended those attacks if he was there(8 gate).

But in case you didnt realize what I said.

gai couldnt end madara when he was revived, because he was still quite far away from there. He had no clue madara was revived.
