I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he magically survives. When it's said that you'll die no matter what happens after doing something, it tends to not be true, and if important characters were going to die during this war, I have a feeling Kishi would have killed some off sooner. Though, I kinda hope I'm wrong.

Gai is always trying to top Kakashi.
I'm saying that his best friend and rival is someone he is willing to die for.
The only way he can top Kakashi is going 8 gates and defending everyone from Madera until Naruto and Obito come out of the Kamui world.
Gai might be able to pull through. I'm saying he's going to die. Unfortunately.
Kakashi I hope won't die because he's died already in the Pein arc.

Haha, it's fine, if you hadn't notice, page 18 or 19 there is a footnote that says something along the lines of "Gai's secret technique revealed?! Next time on Naruto!" but if you hadn't noticed it, I'd say you made a pretty well based observation.
Also...I'm pretty sure Kakashi, Obito, AND Gai will die soon
