So while i was at work, i was playing around with the idea as to how things would go down if Gaara was to fight Hidan, I personally would believe the fight to be a draw and though am sure some of you would try say otherwise, Gaara is a kage for crying out loud and Hidan, the weakest member in Akatsuki (apart from Zetsu) obviously the outcome will be Gaara, but please do bare with me.
To my knowledge, Gaara's sand can only squish (for lack of a better word) people, however it cannot decapitate? being that sand is in no way sharp? perhaps, he could squash him soo much to the point his head pops? off, but im sure in a more real less over the top cartoon like violence it wouldnt actually happen, so in a one versus one fight Gaara would be able to restrain him, if he can catch Hidan of course but would he actually be able to get him into his vegetable state that is headless.
If However Hidan was to mind out for gaara's sand and keep up with the pace of the battle avoiding all of Gaara's attacks and get past that special sand he has that guards him from a close proximity, make contact with Gaara with his lovely triple blade scythe and get a hold of his blood and draw up the ritual circle ready to strike the finishing blow, Gaara would no doubt use his sand to disrupt the circles integrity and therefore make the ritual invalid, leaving Hidan just stabbing at only himself causing Gaara no harm at all.
The fight would go on for... well however long the both of them can keep up with the fight.
