Conditions: This is Kage Summit Gaara, Sasori starts with Kazekage, Sasori is given his water blaster from the anime.
Intel: Gaara is aware of Sasori's reputation as a puppet master and missing-nin, Sasori knows Gaara is the Kazekage.
Mindset: IC.

Gaara wins mid diff at the most. Gaara's gourd sand should be enough to protect him from Satetsu and its variants, and/or they can be evaded via sand suspension flight while Gaara gradually turns the environment into a sand box and overwhelms Sasori.

Its an advantage because most of Sasori's arsenal relies on weapons and traps which is something that wouldn't work on Gaara.

The nature of their jutsus is only similar and they use it in very different ways. For instance, Gaara has showed much more variety and skill.
Same goes for Mei and Kakuzu.

you've also indirectly implied that sasoris sand is inferior to the point of forcing sasori to rely on his ''traps & weapons''; the only way any claim of '' Gaaras' advantage'' could be staked.

No, Mei is patently inferior to Kakuzu as they both use crude nature manipulation combos in gross amounts.
...aside from the single instance of Mei using shape manipulation on a sui'ton, while kakuzu never uses any.

But how does the number of Sasori's puppets matter if they can't blitz or break through the sand? I ask the same for the gas.

Not at all.
I've claimed before that weapons and traps would be useless. It would be a waste of time trying anything other than Iron Sand (which i think could give Sasori a victory if this was Gaara's earlier version in Shippuden).

because they force gaara to stay on defense & the gas will ghet thru as gaara must breathe
