Actually,gaara and onok held off the first one,the second one crashed into the first and they both crashed down,gaara walked out of it.
Sand is a non conductor,so gian wouldnt flow through it so easily to break it apart,and a large sand wall will help stop it.also gaar waesr sand armour and has an auto sand defence,if gian manages to pierce a sand wall,then his gourd sand,the attack would have been much weakened to pierce his sand armour.
Actually earth is weak because it conducts electricity allowing raiton techs to flow through it easily,and since it's syructure isnt that dense,it breaks apart easily. Your veiw on water is flawed,wind is weak to fire because of the same reason,but one can combine the 2 to his advantage,suigetsu has a water body,his weakness if lightening. Both earth and water dont have a very strong solid structure,unlike lets say gold,a gold wall would easily stop gian since it can conduct electricity,thereby raiton jutsus go through,but has a very solid structure,hence can't be broken easily,just ike iron. Gaara's sand dosent conduct electricity,and is a very solid structure,gian isnt breaking it apart.

A wouldnt have been able to break susanoo with a chop if he was in base from a standing position,his liger bomb is a pure blunt force attacks,making use of his strength rather than his armour,but a chop using him armour broke through in v2,now we know that his armour interacts with other objects,as it deflected sasuke's chidori sword easily,and it dosent increase strength,so his hand coated in the raiton armour allowed him to pierce the susanoo.why would he want to use a normal kick when his power bomb didnt hurt the susanoo,or would a simple chop do more damage than a powerbomb?,his strength remains the same in v1 and v2,so obviously the raiton shroud offers penetration.
If they are outside,creating sand is no effort for gaara as he said ut himself,it dosent matter the location,he turned a forest into a sandbox as a child,kakuzu isnt hiding anywhere,he can easily do everything he did in a desert,only difference is he just needs to make more sand,also his location in the war isnt a desert,otherwise onoki would not have been able to make that giant rock golem,nor control the ground by raising it below madara,only jutsu he has that affects sand is weight jutsu.all his other ones are rock jutsu.a forest is made up of loose earth and rocks,gaara can crush the strongest minerals without effort as he said himself. He would have made a lot of sand before kakuzu decides to remove his masks.his sand tsunami changes landscapes,so the entire land will be changed

Normal clones do that,gaara's clones can do that capture their opponent as well as regenerate,we saw what a single clone was able to do to the mizukage,it was able to capture him in a sand pyramid.
Pulling him underground would do no good,cuz gaara would just use the sand there to attack,neither would trying to catch him from below,cuz gaara can easily control sand to break free and still atttack kakzuzu assuming the threads reach him.
If all the masks keep bugging gaara from several angles,he would make use of sand sensing to know their location and when they are about to attack.
Gaara also has great analytic skills,he duduced the weakness of susanoo after seeing it once,and deduced the weakness of joki by in minutes,something muu cudnt do for years.gaara is also smart,i he sees kakuzu can't be crushed,then he will either bury him 200m or seal him,as both will work.
Gaara can control the sand tsunami itself,so blowing it wont matter,and even if he blows it,the landscape would still be changed.
