Knowing the stuff he knows now, and since Naruto is friendly with the 9 tails... (Able too communicate with te 1 tails easily enough), of course this is only a theoretical, as we currently would not be able too know for sure.

He would have had to defeat him though, which would have been nearly impossible since the one tails is made out of sand and most of Gaara's jutsus involve sand :|
