It pretty much took the entire Manga for Kakashi to surpass Itachi when he gained a Double Mangekyo sharingan. I honestly thought that Kishimoto was trying to insinuate that Kakashi would have developed faster after his encounter with Itachi's clone in the forest but I was wrong. It really say's something when you compare him to the Sannin, Kisame and other people on Kakashi's level.
Funny that Kakashi didn't surpass Itachi until the very end

That's surprising considering he is able to defy the laws of the manga and use sharingan without the special uchiha specific chakra to sustain it.

Okay?... And those people who are stronger than kakashi typically use haxed abilities or have insane powersups that make them so strong. Shippuden in the naruto world only lasts 2 years you know that. How would he surpass itachi in 2 years only?

Nothing gets through the Yata Mirror. Kakashi will be still prone to genjutsu despite DMS. Kamui has no counter for that.

I would consider even early shippuden kakashi to be > itachi, thought everyone agreed with that :/
