I used to go to spelling bees all the time and I always hated those kids that asked for definitions, parts of speech, and for use in a sentence. The fact that he purposefully went out of his way to troll that lady makes it worse.

If I had been there I would have gotten up punched him in the stomach and made him say "O", then the lady would have said "No I'm sorry I said heron, not O idiot".

But being the stupid white kid that I am, who at that time thought diversity was just an old, old wooden ship used in the civil war era, I had no idea what a chupacabra was much less how to spell it. I of course lost on that word, and so it will forever be burned into my mind, because that was the year that could have made it to the national spelling bee.

Its almost half believable that he didn't know what she was talking about. I don't know how the minds of national spelling bee kids work, but perhaps he truly didn't know what she was talking about without understanding the word completely... I don't know I'm just saying that at that age, I embarrassed myself by not knowing what someone else was talking about.
