Fujin & Raijin - Naruto & Sasuke

(雷神 raijin?) is a god of thunder[1] and storms in the Shinto religion and in Japanese mythology.

(風神?) is the Japanese god of the wind and one of the eldest Shinto gods.

Now we all know that Kishimoto is pretty damn partial to foreshadowing, (in his cover art especially). He is also a fan of using copious amounts of Japanese Mythology... Most coming the from practice... i.e. , , and ... all of which feature as the powers of the MS.

I'm sure it's been noted before that there may be a relationship between the two main characters of the Naruto series and these two Kami... It's been said that the Naruto is homogeneous to Fujin and Sasuke to Raijin. Given their chakra nature types this would be more than enough to convince most people...

I can't find a source but I read that there is a myth about the two Kami coming together to defend Japan from invading forces.

Assuming this myth is real... the next step to relating this to Naruto is obvious... Sasuke and Naruto joining forces against the invading force Madara...

However... I was re-reading some chapters and came across this

Notice the rasengan like spheres around Naruto... to me they look awefully similar to the drums around the Raijin... is there anything to this apparent reversal of deities?

I may be jumping the gun or over thinking (it could just be coincidence after all) but perhaps it's symbolising Naruto taking on both rolls of Fu and Raijin... "shouldering the entire burden" Perhaps there is no redemption left for Sasuke...

Another theory is that Naruto and Sasuke are interchangeable... either of them could still go either way but will always arrive at the same place when it comes to protecting the ninja world.

I honestly don't know so I'd like to dissect this one with NB as I do think it means something but can't put my finger on what :D...

Agreed. Nice work. Makes for a interesting read for a change instead of all these "Sasuke sucks" Or "Madara is really..." threads that have been posted lately. Don't know much about the Fujin/Raijin Myths but im def going to go google them now... :)

Great thread! I would likely say since Kishi is so into the shinto religion, he wasn't necessarily cross referencing when he drew the image. He probably saw that image of Raijin a while ago and it stuck in his head cause he thought it looked cool and maybe he added those Rasengan like spheres around Naruto without thinking about which god they belonged to. Anyways, that's my theory!

Once again nice work
