LOL, seriously? Haha, but no, i don't think any country other than France has this law. Its kinda stupid, cuz not all muslim women wear the hijaab, and apart from a few places in the world many do so by choice. Anyway, this move is bs. Its the same as what the saudi's do, who force women to wear niqaab/hijaab whenever they leave the house. Governments should have NO say in what people chose to wear/not to wear in public as in my opinion both the Saudi's and the French are being discriminatory in their own way.
Well, the niqab/hijab/burqa isn't obligatory in Islam but it's kinda good respect of it that they are worn; not really because government force it.
Th Holy Prophet Muhammad said in the Quran that it is a form of respect to Islam and respect of their own body. The Prophet never decreed this as an law but everything that the Prophet said is meaningful in every Muslim's eyes and is performed out of good will to him...That's a longs story in fact, so I won't go much into detail.
Moreover though, that's why the burqa/hijab is obligatory in the Mecca (the house of the Prophet). As much as what I know, the hijab/burqa should be worn after you went to Mecca always by women (same as beard for men). So coming back to what I said, this ban promotes gender equality by sacrificing beliefs...
Comin' back to your "Elvis religion", Elvis was never a God, no matter how much he is a celebrity or loved. However, I understand your point.
But see it this way - tomorrow, there's a ban on on another clothes and they might say that it promotes vulgarity and is against a nation's pride and dignity. So where's the logic and freedom of speech in these law?
All-in all, this ban law has more drawbacks for me and is based on wrong principles. I quite of don't understand the part "imprison women"
