Ice Release is the Kekkei Genkai of Yuki Clan. Most simple explanation would be that user creates Ice by mixing his Wind and Water chakra. Only member shown in anime to use ice was Haku. When Ice release is used the temprature of atmosphere drops.

Weaknesses | Ice Release is weak against both Lightning and Earth Release. Sound is also effective but really depends on what jutsu is used which is basically the rule with all the jutsus. Just because an element is weak to other doesn't mean it can be countered with any jutsu from that element.

Neutral | Ice Release is neutral against fire. Means same rank jutsus will most probably cancel each other out but stronger jutsu from any element will trump the other.

Strengths | Ice is strong against water and wind type elements.

(Hyouton: Shimogakure no Jutsu) - Ice Release: Hiding in Frost Technique

Description: The user after performing the rat hand seal covers the surrounding area in frost, creating a cold mist and drastically lowering the temperature of the surrounding area. Despite not as hindering as the hidden mist, the technique enables a ninja to more stealthy move and surprise his enemy who will be hindered by both the thin mist and the freezing temperature.

Korra creates a lot of clones and summons a lot of snakes so that her student can use them as practice targets. Alright you will be using these to try the jutsus you are going to learn. First off do the ram sign and channel your chakra in the area to cover it in frost making the temperature drop drastically. Than using the frost stealthy kill at least one of my clones before the others stop you!

After listening to sensei's instructions, Kuzan quickly does the ram hand seals and mixes water and wind chakra to convert it into Ice chakra. After that he releases his chakra into the atmosphere around him and manipulates it in a way that temperature starts to lower in the area. The surroundings also become covered in a mist like substance though not as thick as mist. This enables Kuzan to move freely without being noticed in the frost. He picks a target out of several clones that sensei made and moves towards it silently. As he is behind the clone he quickly takes out a knife from his pocket and stabs the clone making it disperse.

Korra than uses hire fire and senchakra to heat up the area to the point all the frost melts away. Alright I don't need to be reminded of the cold temperature of the Southern Water Tribe anymore! We can move on now.

(Hyouton no Jutsu) Ice Release Technique

Description: The user can use this jutsu to make it begin to snow down on the terrain, or, much like the “Earth Style Technique” the user can make small pillars or shields of pre-existing ice or make it materialize. If this is used to make snow, then after 3 to 4 turns most of the terrain will be covered.

Korra than sits down and has more snakes slither out of the grass. This one is basic but also has multi uses! Using your ice chakra have it start to snow at first. Korra than grabs a jacket to prepare for the snow. Than use your ice chakra again to create small ice pillars and shields to defend and hit my snakes. This is basically an ice version of earth style jutsu. Korra than instructs her snakes to surround you with some trying to bite you.

After that crowley closely observes as sensei explains his next set of instructions and at the same time make some snakes slither out of bushes and move towards him. He quickly manipulates his ice chakra and makes snow fall on the area. After that he quickly manipulates the snow fallen on the ground and makes two shields with it as the snakes close in on him. He uses the shields to keep the snakes away from his body. and speaks as he continuously tries to keep snakes away from his flesh.

"So he taught you how to summon snakes. Damn that orochimaru. Please make them go away."

Korra has a snake extend from her sleeves grabbing the mug of hot chocolate and brings her the drink. I mean I still take the hot coco! And I have out done Oro when it comes to snakes. And dont be afraid of them Snakes Are Life.

(Hyouton: Tsubame Fubuki) Ice Release: Swallow Snow Storm

Description: The user will shoot out a cluster of needles, shaped like swallows, which will fly out toward their target with great speed. The swallows are unable to be dodged as they can change direction in mid-air, redirecting themselves to hit their target. This jutsu is also highly resistant to fire attacks, unable to be destroyed by fire jutsu unless it is higher than C ranked.

Korra watches as her student shoots himself into the air. I dont think that was necessary! Korra than has a flying snake appear and catch the student and bring him back to the ground. Alright now that you have landed on to the next one! For this you will shoot a cluster of needles that are shaped like shallows to hit my snakes with great speed. The needles can change directions mid air so my snake is going to have problem avoiding them. The are also slightly fire resistance to C rank and below fire. Korra than instructs a snake to be moving in a unpredictable pattern to that you can use the needles to change directions to hit it.

Description: The user will rise up what seems like a jagged pillar of ice from the ground, encasing their opponent and freezing them in place. The user can also use this on themselves, encasing themselves in ice to defend them from jutsu. Being an ice user, however, the user will still be able to move their arms and legs fluently while in the ice.

Korra than creates a water prison near her to just make a demonstration. Alright so you should know this were you use water to make a prison for your enemy? Well for ice instead of a sphere you create jagged ice pillars from the ground to encase my clone and freezing her in place. If you also need a defense against a jutsu you could encase yourself to give yourself a defense and since you are an ice user you would be able to move around! Korra than creates a clone that stands right in front of you.

After that as sensei instructs a snake to moving in an unpredictable pattern he quickly concentrates raw chakra and then manipulates it to convert it into ice chakra. After that he turns his attention to the snake that was moving in wayward pattern he releases his chakra in the form of several needles shaped as swallows and directs these needles to pierce the snake. Snake tries his best to avoid the needles but Kuzan manipulates the needles in mid air to make sure that they hit the snake.

Description: The user will make needles surround the opponent from all sides. Directly above them, though, there is an opening. The user can jump away at the last second before the needles converge on their opponent, or they can simply perform the jutsu from a safe distance.

(Hyouton: Usui Kōri no Ue Ni Tatte) Ice Release: Standing on Thin Ice

Description: The user will make five hand seals and place his hands on the ice below him. He will then focus his water and wind chakra into the ice and with his chakra he will make the ice as weak and brittle as possible so that it is easily broken. If either the user or the enemy step on the ice in front of the user, it will shatter. This technique can be used to weaken other ice jutsu B-rank and below. In this case, the user does not need to make contact with the jutsu and will instead just transfer his chakra into the ice jutsu he wants to weaken. The affected ice jutsu will be weakened one rank.

Caitlin waits for the instructions from the new shishou as her previous Sensei had to leave for personal reasons. As she gets the instructions on what to do she quickly utilizes her Ice chakra and makes a huge number of needles appear around a tree. After a while she quickly send the needles towards the tree from all sides. The needles are strong enough to pierce into the wood and stay there like darts.

Its a good technique. The barrage of needle is omni-directional, so dodging is out of question mostly. opponent has to counter the move and that provides the time for further attack in time frame. Also once the opponent is damaged by another jutsu this jutsu can be used as a sure kill. Since the huge number of needles will completely make the opponent unable to do anything.​

SHe then steps on the ice to see if her justu worked. To her surprise the ice had weakened as it broke when she stepped on it.

Well a technique donated by you. This technique can be used against ice techniques from other users. Or as the description says it can be used to make the ice that user and opponent is standing on, weaker. Mostly it will be used to weaken the ground and use that as a surprise element for the opponent when they step on it. Other than that it is highly unlikely that you will fight against another ice user. As there aren't many. But the use is there to weaken the Ice jutsu up to B-Rank by one rank.​

Description: A stronger version of the original Flying Needles of Death gathers large amounts of Needles from the air and surrounding environment into more than a thousand needles. He then directs the needles to a specific target, and leaps back to avoid damage to himself. The difference is that these needles are literally icicle spikes, and after damaging the target the icicle spikes melt into a light cold rain.

Caitlin waits for the instructions and after she has been briefed on what she has to do, she quickly channels Ice chakra in her feet and the releases it while applying shape manipulation to make a dome of ice arise around her. She then cancels the dome and explains the pros and cons.

Its a good defensive technique. Can protect from B-Rank fire and A-Rank water and wind attacks. Plus it is pretty easy and quick to perform since there aren't any hand seals to performs. And as seen in both the manga and anime the dome is see through so you can still keep an eye on the opponent and be safe from any sneak attacks.

After a while she quickly send the needles towards the tree from all sides and steps back herself to avoid any damage. The needles are strong enough to pierce into the wood but after a while they melt down.

Just as its parent technique it is a good technique. The barrage of needle is omni-directional, so dodging is out of question mostly. This is basically just a stronger version of previously learned 1000 needles of death so same pros and cons apply except that it will be stronger and will need a higher ranked jutsu to counter.​
