I don't see why his power-up can't just be increasing his base stats, then applying the Gear 2 and 3 boosts to them.

In his 4th gear, I think Luffy will absorb both Sanji and Zoro and turn into a carbon fiber, thus becoming almost indestructible.

They have all gotten stronger every oddballs they havegone to. Way before gears our asura it dj they were getting more and more powerful gradually.

Base Luffy is gear 1.
Gear 4=Nightmare Luffy. He's going to stretch his muscles and take that form.
When he finally gets far enough, he'll eventually be on that Plastic Man status.
