Itachi states that you 'cannot become one with that very being' in this case that can be interpreted as Obito imitating the Sage and giving up his identity of who he truly is as he considers his past self as 'fake'. Itachi also states here that those who cannot accept themselves will always fail. As stated earlier, Obito has thrown away his identity, labelling himself as 'no one'. 'You absorb yourself in the things you think have some kind of value' in this case is Project Tsuki no Me.
