Okay, so, people usually say there was no foreshadowing regarding the reveal, so, I wanted to point out the ones I felt were obvious, at least in hindsight.

1. The mask, yes the mask, first of all, if he was truly Madara, why wear a mask, to hide how old he looked? Outside of that wearing a mask was pointless, except of course for concealing identity.

2. Sasuke doesn't actually refer to him as Madara once the Shinobi World War is going on, referring to him as "Tobi" during his encounter with the Zetsus.

3. His powers, looking back his powers clearly mirror Kakashi's own abilities, and he was shown as having retrieved Deidara's arm somehow.

4. During Team 7's reunion, we see momentarily the back of his head while he's unmasked, sporting a decidedly useful appearance.

5. How he refers to himself while posing as Madara is also suspect, rarely showing Madara in a flattering light, such as making him out to be rather childish and petty while telling Sasuke the "truth" and laughing and stating that he had on altruistic intentions with IT, conforming to Obito's personal views of Madara.

6. Most of all there is Kakashi Gaiden. When one really gets down to it, there was no point of making Kakashi Gaiden, we already had a vague understanding of how Kakashi gained his eye and Kakashi wasn't really the main character of the story Obito was. Think about it, it begins with Obito, mostly shows his point of view, and focuses on Obito's relationships with his teammates rather than Kakashi's, the reason of course being that Kakashi Gaiden was meant to introduce Obito so we'd know who he was during the reveal.

What do you think?

The biggest hint - I feel - was Kakashi Gaiden. It wouldn't have matter how Kakashi got the Sharingan if it wasn't going to effect the plot.

The clue is in the name "Tobi" and the fact that "coincidentally", Kakashi's gifted Sharingan used a specialized Space-Time Ninjutsu that looked exactly the same as Tobi's.

And "coincidentally", they were in the corresponding eyes.

I honestly felt pretty stupid when I couldn't figure it all out. There was a reason why Tobi only showed his right eye through his mask. His haircut is pretty explanatory. And Kamui was the biggest hint given out.

I really liked how Kishi only showed Obito's scarred side and made it look like he was of old age.

Don't worry, dear; it was all a part of Aizen's elaborate scheme.

I'm pretty sure no one says there was no foreshadowing to it.

You're half right. Kakashi Gaiden was simply Kakashi's backstory. All important characters tend to have a backstory. The more important you are, the greater the way the backstory is presented. For example, Sasori's parents going away, dying, Chiyo teaching him to make puppets, that's basically his Sasori Gaiden, just way shorter than Kakashi Gaiden because Sasori isn't as significant a character as Kakashi. Backstories are meant to give insight to characters, and sometimes, they just so happen to introduce relevance to the plot. This is mostly because the backstories happen at certain points, and the information revealed is relevant to that point of the backstory happening. For example, Guy's backstory with his dad. Kishi killed two birds with one stone: We got Guy's backstory and learned about the 8 Gates because the 8 Gates were relevant at the point Guy's story was revealed.

What I'm trying to say is, it does matter how Kakashi got his Sharingan, even if it didn't affect the plot, because it's part of his backstory, and backstory to important characters is a key literary element. It just so happens that Kakashi's backstory of how he got his Sharingan also had a key plot point tied into it.

OT: The Tobi finding Deidara's arm thing actually isn't foreshadowing. Kakashi pulled Deidara's elbow into the Kamui world, causing Deidara's arm to fall into the woods. Tobi found it in the woods, not the Kamui world.

Thing is, all those characters got minor flashbacks, even only Naruto and Sasuke only gained flashbacks, Kakashi, on the other hand, was given an entire storyline, and I'm talking in terms of the manga.

I'm also very sceptical that Tobi is Madara, his face doesnt have Madara style below eyelid.

And the most important is, Madara will never ever sacrifice his long silky hair no matter what.Lol

Long hair is Madara identity.
