Even if he is on a personal journey, it still doesn't change the fact that he had obligations as a husband and father. 12-13 years of him not being there for both Sakura and Sarada is sad no matter how you put it. He could have easily put his mission on hold and see them sometimes. I just hope him and Sarada's relationship don't end up like Naruto and Boruto's relationship honestly.

I'm not trying to hard in anything I'm just voicing my opinions on Sasuke (I have never liked his charcter) but I don't know how one could miss the fact that Sasuke is neglecting his child I mean it couldn't get any more obvious. Even if it's not intentional it doesn't change the fact that he daughter is being neglected does it? Intentional or not it's neglect plain and simple. Also you didnt need to bring up the whole fathers getting stationed in war to protect their country example since this is nothing like that. From what I remember the ninja world is peaceful and there is not a war in site nor will there be one In The future.
