I alright so I know this has virtually nothing to do with the current bleach situation, but can you ladies & Gents help me get a clearer understanding about one thing you hear about a lot in Bleach, but is a rather broad statement......................................What the H*** is "Captain Level"?

I know, I know seems to have a simple enough answer but its still to broad. I have been reading bleach for a while now, and several characters have been stated to be "Captain Level" or have "Captain Level" spiritual pressure or "Captain Level" ability in a particular skill and for the most part quite a few have been rather disapointing
Prime Examples:
Ikkaku Madarame
Chojiro Sasakibe
Findorr Calius(claimed)
Don't get me wrong all these guys are skilled and easily high-lieutenant level,but it broadens the term of "Captain Level"
And it gets me to wondering................exactly how strong is an average captain level Shinigami?

I ask this because of several remarks, "captain Level" doesn't seem all that powerful.......here's one that that makes me doubt the effectiveness of an average captain level Shinigami:

Adjuchas vs. captain level-"Adjuchas are commonly solitary creatures, rarely joining into groups. They are powerful enough to challenge a captain of the Gotei 13." (Source???)

Vasto Lorde vs. Captain level-"The combat capabilities of a Vasto Lorde are above those of the captains of the Gotei 13."

Bankai and well above average spiritual pressure. An average captain should be able to solo his division. And get one shotted by Aizen

Yeah captain is a broad level.

You have the weaker ones like Kommomura and Sui-Fon....you have the middle and upper classes like Mayuri and Byakuya, and then yoy have monsters like Unohana and Yammamoto.


Basically it is someone who has a pretty high spirit pressure and something equivalent to a bankai.


Basically if you can take Kommomurs XD!


Pending the Adjhuchas they can be. The people on the Espada from probably Grimmjow down were worthy of captain level. The other 4 Espada were weak, but had unique powers that would grant them an edge over those typically stronger.

Vasto Lorde aren the high level for Captains needing the elite like Shunsui to take them on (Espada 1-3...and resurrection Ulqiorra).

Ikkaku has the Banksi, but I think he seems to lack a bit of overall skill to be a captain..he lacks in Kido



After all that...yeah captain level is really broad because Kubo made some captains FARRR stronger than others.

Anything from the range of Yammamoto to Kommomura is a captain level.

We have yet to see the full extent of captain level. Only caaptains to go full out are byakuya, that dog guy, soifong and maybe mayuri. Other captains like kyoraku have just used shikai. And kenpachi is strong as hell wothout using shikai or bankai

Kenpachi , unohana, yamamoto,shunsui, hirako shinji, gin ichimaru ,kyoraku, and a few are true captain level

It's pretty much if you have bankai, though there are still other factors.

Once u obtain Bankai u r considered captain level coz not every shinigami will obtain one as Byakuya says ''Even the four noble families, whose members are always exceptionally talented, only have a member capable ofBankaievery few generations''. So just attaining a Bankai is a great achievement that shows great strength and it means anyone who can hold their own vs a Bankai is of captain level.
