Minato needs a Gaiden for sure.

I would like to learn more about his family, since my fav's are his descendants. Plus, I want to see how he obtained FTG, and more on his rise to becoming Hokage. He's really band in the Manga, and a Gary Stu.

Well characters that I believe should have a Gaiden (not necessarily fodder) are:

1. Indra/Ashura

2. Hagoromo/Hamura

3. Onoki (We'd be able to see him interact with all previous Gokage because he lived through it all)

4. Sakumo Hatake

5. Hanzo

6. Minato

7. Mangetsu Hozuki

Gaara and how he became kazekage would be good, I mean his dad died in the chunnin exams, how long did they wait until making Gaara kazekage? Especially as Gaara only just stopped being an insomniac crazed killer. But id also love to see current day Suna.

I would also love to see the adventures of Iruka. And maybe Anko, Orochimaru's student, and Mirai Sarutobi. Hopefully she uses genjutsu but also has the taijutsu skills of her father.

Well, it would be nice if they did, but I don't believe any of those will get a new novel that will later be developed into a series. It's not likely at this point.

Characters received novels if a) There was a story to tell about them that relates to the actual story line (Itachi got two novels because his past later on influences Sasuke's, which influences Naruto's... it's also a good example of how detrimental the shinobi world can be to a person & his story is the back bone of the series after Naruto's- it's the dark path which contrasts with that of the main character's), b) There would be enough material to warrant a novel on said character, and c) Popularity- do they have enough fans that would buy the books to make the effort worth it?

Out of these 7...
1. Minato
2. Sakumo Hatake
3. Dan Kato and Iruka Umino
4. Tailed Beasts
5. Gaara
6. Jinchuuruki
7. Sasori

Novels for 2, 3, 4, and 6 are automatically out of the count due to lack of popularity- these novels would not sell enough.

Gaara already received a novel and Studio Pierrot may animate it along with the other Hiden novels after the manga's resolution in the anime. His path to becoming Kazekage was too long ago- it was not meaningful to the main characters and the time frame for elaborating on it is long gone... it wouldn't sell if it were released since his fans are interested at where he's at now- the character is still alive so newer events are happening to him.

Sasori received some episodes in the anime and was a part of the Akatsuki hiden novel (which may be adapted into the anime later on with the rest of the Hiden series). He's also been featured in all of the major Akatsuki-centered works due to his popularity (third most popular member of the group after Itachi and Deidara), like the story board in the storm game when Akatsuki was being assembled by Tobi and Pein. His character alone isn't going to warrant a 200+ page novel though. Nothing would be shown that was not already.

Minato by far is the next most likely support character from the original manga to receive a novel/anime spin-off. He is popular enough and it would sell. There would be quite a bit to tell and it could be tied in with Naruto, to make it relevant to the overall plot line. However, Kishimoto has been mentioning that he wanted to do a spin-off for Minato since 2010. I think he and Shueisha haven't attempted one because they don't have anything else to say. They could elaborate more- but it wouldn't be too interesting. Minato's story is one of success- his tragedy is only the night of his death which was shown enough in the original manga. Why would one want to read a story where a character succeeds and has no worry? It could easily be a 200+ page novel, but it wouldn't be different from what we were already told about him. It would just be him going on missions, succeeding, being admired by everyone around him, etc. Just like in the manga.

I'm not sure what the problem is. Minato is weak and irrelevant, hence why he is fodder.

Too much to read. Need a summary.

It's basically saying which characters deserve a Gaiden and why. I should have taken "fodder" off the title, because most on the list aren't fodder.
