A college student killed a Florida couple and then tried to eat the face of one of the victims on Monday, an act that appeared to be entirely at random, local law enforcement said.

Police said 19-year-old Florida State University student Austin Harrouff had been at a restaurant with his parents in Tequesta when he stormed off on foot.

John Joseph Stevens III, 59, and his wife, Michelle Stevens, 53, were sitting in their garage when Harrouff approached and allegedly stabbed them to death, police said. The suspect was also accused of stabbing a neighbor, who tried to intervene

When deputies arrived, they had difficulty subduing Harrouff, who plays football and wrestles. Police said he was “grunting and growling” as he tried to eat the male victim’s face, according to UPI.

One deputy “immediately closed the gap between herself and Harrouff, and realized that he was actually biting the victim in the face and causing what turned out to be substantial trauma,” Martin County Sheriff William Snyder told CBS Miami.

She deployed her Taser, but the stun gun had little effect on Harrouff. Eventually, he was overpowered by several deputies and a police dog.

Harrouff was transported to an area hospital, where police said he was making “animal sounds” and may not survive, the station reported.

The unidentified neighbor was undergoing surgery for stab wounds.

The couple killed in the attack were known for hanging out in the garage, which they had turned into a lounge, with the door wide open. They called it their “Garage-Ma-Hall,” according to the Miami Herald.

A 911 call placed by Austin Harrouff's mother reveals that her son was wearing a 'Make America Great Again' hat moments before allegedly murdering a random couple and biting pieces of flesh off one of the victims.

According to a police report released Thursday afternoon, Austin's mother, Mina Harrouff, contacted the authorities on the night of the slayings saying that her son had been acting strangely for days and claiming superpowers.
The mother said her son abruptly left the Duffy's restaurant they were having dinner at on Monday after having an argument with his father.

During the call, Mina said her son, a Florida State student and fraternity member, was last seen wearing white shorts, a blue polo and a red 'Make America Great Again' hat.

The hat's statement has been popularized by Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump, as he has used the slogan on merchandise for his campaign.

Harrouff's YouTube channel contains several bizarre videos about fitness tutorials, as well as impromptu karaoke performances.

He will be arrested and charged in the deaths of a Martin County couple upon his release from St. Mary's Medical Center, Martin County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Trisha Kukuvka announced Friday.

Kukuvka said the Sheriff's Office had been working with the State Attorney's Office to determine the appropriate charges.

She said Harrouff will be charged with first-degree murder in the death of Michelle Mischon Stevens and John Stevens, attempted first-degree murder in the attempting killing of Jeffrey Fisher, armed burglary and resisting an officer without violence.

Authorities believe Harrouff was high on flakka, a highly addictive designer drug that causes paranoia and psychosis. Flakka, sometimes known as gravel, is closely related to bath salts, a synthetic cathinone that police linked to the infamous face-eating attack in Miami four years ago. The man-made drug that's manufactured primarily in China entered the states only a few years ago, but didn't soar in popularity until 2013. Florida has seen the brunt of the flakka abuse. The epidemic began to spread to the Midwest last year.

Harrouff remains at the West Palm Beach hospital in critical, but stable condition.

What a piece of trash. I hope he won't get out of the hospital while breathing. I just can't understand why someone would take drugs. I'm sad that innocent people had to pay for his insanity.
