FL studio from what I've heard is good. It runs on windows only but also macs if you have bootcamp and windows installed. FL studio has a mac counterpart called Logic. I use Logic Pro 9 myself and recommend it if you have a mac but I've also heard programs like Reason, Ableton, and Cubase are just as good as FL and Logic, if not better.

I make some nice beats from fl studio. Im starting to sell some of
the beats that im making since alot of ppl say that it sounds professional.
